I just returned home from the Texas REALTORS® Winter Meeting in Austin, Texas. This event is packed with committee meetings, educational sessions, and, where major decisions are made via our Board of Directors. There were 4-packed days of extrememly useful topics such as water and the data center issues.
I have been attending these meetings for many years and look forward to catching up with my colleagues from around the state. Networking with other professionals is one of the very best aspects of these meetings. I also enjoy knocking down many CE credits.
One of the highlights for me was being honored as the recipient for the William C. Jennings Commercial Transaction of the Year. Each year, the committee seeks commercial projects that demonstrate innovation, problem-solving, community impact, and creativity. Guys, let me tell you, this one blew me away!

I have shared this unique project on this platform many times. We purchased a corner building on our historic Square and renovated and revitalized every square inch of the building. It was a very interesting project and one that we did have to navigate numerous issues.
Because of the building being a part of our historic Square, there were additional layers of issues and challenges that had to be overcome. We had to have a balacony approved and engineered, were required to put in a very expensive water suppression system, as well as other ADA challanges.
The finished product brought a needed high-end boutique hotel to the Square where we hosted several Senators, movie producers, and even some names from Hollywood you might recognize. The hotel itself is housed in the upstairs of the building while the downstairs contains 3 leased businesses. Each business downstairs complemented the hotel.
Having our project recognized as the top commercial transaction of the year was beyond my expectation. We live in a big state and there are so many creative projects happening. Granbury gets a boost as well with this recognition. I am still pinching myself.
My sentiments to everyone who works in the Texas commercial real estate realm, submit your projects! It's rare in this industry to get this kind of recognition. Thank you, Texas REALTORS® Commercial Committee for this award.
