Your Online Presence Matters

Today I want to talk about something that most agents neglect. I understand why most agents neglect it; we have so many things to do already as real estate professionals. The last thing we often think about is how people find us, where they go looking to find us, and how we can up our business by doing something in addition to what we are already doing.

The bottom line is, buyers and sellers are online and if you can't be found or if your presence isn't up-to-date, that is going to cause lost opportunities.

When I go looking for agents online, the first clue that I have that they are not up on their online presence game is that their social media looks terrible. Their profiles are old. Nothing is connected. Everything has a different look and feel. Their message says, "I am inconsistent," or worse still, "I am low quality."

One of the things that is critically important is to have social profiles that have consistency and cohesion. A referral that is looking you up online goes one place, they experience the same brand, the same look, the same message, and it looks like it is current for today.

I know agents that haven't changed their website in 20 years, that haven't updated their social profiles for five years. I know agents that don't even go online to look at their social profiles and are completely unaware of the impression they are making to potential clients online. I'll tell you: other people are looking at your profiles!

When I go online and I am looking for an agent, I see profiles that are incomplete or I'll get a general impression of who they are, but they haven't filled in all the boxes of information. It looks bad. Your online presence matters! It is critical and crucial.

A polished online presence is no longer optional - it's the first impression that wins or loses you potential clients.
Elevate Your Online Presence

When you think about your online presence, what you are trying to do is create the experience that your potential client will have when they meet with you. You get to say a little about yourself, like your experience. You are basically doing a pre-meeting interview with them by having your information online.

I was talking to my tech director today, Randy, and he told me we've done hundreds of these (social media tune-ups) for agents in recent years. That sounds good, but there are hundreds of thousands of agents out there! That's telling me that out of the thousands of clients that we've had, most of you aren't thinking about how their business looks like to someone who has found them online.

There's nothing out there, which you have control over, that says something negative about you more than incomplete, old, missing information about you online. Get a tune-up, contact our office, get something done so that you are putting your best-appearance-forward when potential clients encounter you online. Start here.

Denise Lones Great point. An updated online presence not only attracts clients but also reinforces referrals and repeat business.

Obviously, I think that is a problem that our readers need to address. If we want to be treated as a trustworthy business, we need to act like one and put our best online-foot-forward. So many good reasons to do this. Great to see you Kathy Streib! - Denise
