It’s easy to lose enthusiasm for your home, but it doesn’t have to stay that way!
No matter who you are or where you live, there comes a point when you grow tired of your home. It can start to feel dull and uninspiring. Maybe you never really liked it, even when it was brand new, or maybe you once loved it but it no longer meets your needs or has started to feel outdated.
Here are some tips to help you fall in love with your home all over again (most of them are free!):
Get Rid of Anything that Isn’t Bringing you Joy
When you keep things in your home that don’t bring you joy, you’re more likely to feel disconnected from it. So take a moment to look around. Nothing will have more of an effect on the way you feel about your home than getting rid of anything and everything you don’t absolutely love.
Shop your Home
Shop your own home! It’s one of the simplest and most effective ways to give your space a free mini makeover. By rotating your favorite accessories in and out, they’ll feel fresh and new every time you bring them back.
Rearrange the Furniture
Just like swapping out accessories and decor, rearranging furniture can give you a fresh perspective on your home. Whether you tweak the layout within a room or move pieces from one room to another, it can bring a real boost to the space.
Declutter
It might seem obvious, but you’d be surprised how many people overlook this! Do a deep clean and declutter every single space in your home, putting things away as you go.
Add Flowers & Plants
It’s incredible how flowers and plants can transform a space! Whether it’s placing fresh blooms on your entryway table each week, setting a plant in a stylish pot on the kitchen counter, or adding an indoor tree to fill an empty corner, any of these touches can make you fall in love with your home all over again.
Use the Rooms You Don’t Normally Use
For many, a formal living or dining room often goes unused. If that’s true for you, consider rethinking how you use those areas. Maybe you could relax with a book in the living room instead of the family room, or conduct work tasks at the dining room table for a change of scenery.
Find Mementos or Photos you Love and Display Them
After tidying, cleaning, and decluttering your spaces, take a moment to see if each room has something meaningful and personal. If not, collect mementos or photos that bring back special memories or trips, and get them framed.
Entertain More
The more memories you create in your home, the more it will mean to you. It doesn’t need to be fancy, and cooking isn’t required! Invite some friends over for wine or coffee, grab takeout, and enjoy games with your favorite couples. Surround yourself with friends and family to fill your home with joy and make you fall in love with it all over again.
Add Small Luxuries
Simple luxuries are a great way to make everyday life feel special. It’s not about splurging or going over budget, but about investing a little extra in life’s essentials. There’s something delightful about slipping into softer sheets at night, applying a creamier lotion, or washing your hands with a soap that leaves a lasting, lovely scent.
Focus on the Positive
Focusing on the things you love about your home, instead of what you don’t, is a lot like practicing gratitude. The more you shift your attention to the positives, the more it becomes a mindset. It helps strengthen your appreciation for what you enjoy while making the less-loved aspects fade into the background.
Love where you live! Happy Valentine's Day!
