It Glows In The Dark

By

This cartoon is an easy one to explain. Timmothy recently attended a class on painting the Northern Lights with glow in the dark paints. I'm hoping he will continue to learn this skill and present us with some real eye-popping pieces of art however I don't think he felt it was something he wished to persue.

Below is the art under normal light and below that under a black light. I don't think it photo graphed well but people visiting the gallery seem to be very impressed when we turn the lights out and the black lights on.

My Real Estate Tie In:

Whether buying or selling a home lighting is really important. If you are purchasing a home you want as much light as possible to view properties you are interested in. If you are selling your home natural light is your friend IF you have a clean home... every home for sale should be a clean home!

When I was an active Real Estate agent I frequently gave Buyers bright flash lights when we viewed a homes basement. A good, bright flashlight in a finished or  unfinished basements can reveal a lot that poor lighting can hide. The first thing that good lighting may show in a basement is evidence of past water damage. Buyer BEWARE, if the light reveals a past water issue and the Sellers Property Condition Statement doesn't mention it you may want to move on quickly and find a honest Seller.

Do you enjoy the cartoons written by my son (Timmothy N. Timm) which I use as a springboard to write my daily posts? His strip, Titus & Philemon, has run in two newspapers for years as well as being printed in my blog every day. Titus & Philemon (pronounced Phi - Lee -Man) are guinea pigs. Their owner is Joe. Timmothy has never repeated a joke/comic strip in the 12 years he has been writing it. He has never copied another strip, such as Peanuts or Garfield. You can follow Timmothy on FB as Titus & Philemon and you can also check him out on Instagram as Instagram.com/titus and philemon/ .For Timmothy's website type timmtimmothy.com into your browser. I tried to put it in a link here but it refuses to work. Do NOT put anything in front of timmtimmothy.com or it will not work.

Good morning, Bob... I can't remember the last time I carried a flashlight. Of course, we don't have those kinds of basements here in my area. And now our phones all have flashlights, as well.

Bob "RealMan" Timm - This is a very good point. I visited previous clients of mine a few days ago. One of the improvements they made was to take out the wood floors and replace them with lighter wood floors. The rooms were significantly improved but the most interesting thing is this - when I asked why they changed the dark wood to light, they said because the house was too dark and they weren't getting the sun and the light inside. It was too depressing. Once they changed the floors, the whole house seemed brighter. Now they are enjoying their home more.

Good morning Bob. When I was active in the Chicago market listing and selling older homes a flashlight was a necessity. After moving to Florida it sat in the trunk. These days I carry it with me all the time, my cellphone. Enjoy your day.

Thanks Bob, for shedding light on importance of light or flash light to check basements.

A good, bright flashlight in a finished or  unfinished basements can reveal a lot that poor lighting can hide. The first thing that good lighting may show in a basement is evidence of past water damage.

Great idea about bringing flashlights for clients when going into basements. They certainly can be dark. And cobwebby!

Fun and thoughtful post, Bob.
The glow-in-the-dark artwork is a great visual reminder of how much lighting can change what we see, and your real estate tie-in is spot on. Good lighting reveals details that matter, especially in areas like basements where issues can be hidden. Your practical advice underscores why buyers should always take the time to look closely and ask the right questions.

Now I am wondering if Thomas Kincade used some of this type of paint in his paintings? Hmmmm. Your son is much more talented than I am...lol

Hi Bob,
I remember what a convenience it was when the phones started coming with flashlights. One less thing to carry.

Timmothy's glow light painting is fun. It's good to try something different now and then.

I have a flashlight in the car just in case, along with a tape measure, a hammer, a screwdriver, you never know what you might need on any given day. Yes, natural light is important, clients often mention they don't like a house because it is too dark.

I used to keep a marble in my pocket and a level in my car as well Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543 😉

What was the marble floor, to see if floors were level?

Bob "RealMan" Timm basements are very common here in CT, and unless the basement has been finished in livable space, the lighting is usually not very good.  Bad lighting hides a lot of issues.

It sure does George Souto and good lighting often reveals a past water issue.

Bob- you are right...lighting is important, especially when showing your home. I've viewed many home that did not have any additional lighting other than the overhead light the builder provided. Ugh.

And yes, let's see more of Timmothy's work with glow in the dark paint.

The builders original lighting can leave a lot to be desired for sure Kathy Streib . On top of that, if it's an older home and the ceiling has never been painted the lighting is super ineffective.

I will pass your words of encouragement on to Timmothy, I hope he does more.
