March Is Women's History Month
Recognizing The Past, Shaping The Future
“Women belong in all places where decisions are being made. It shouldn’t be that women are the exception.”
- Ruth Bader Gizburg
Throughout history, bold, wise and resilient, women have left a remarkable legacy to our culture and society. During the month of March we celebrate the wisdom of women who have defied inequality and ignored defeat. Through their tenacity, we all have and continue to benefit. President Jimmy Carter issued the first Presidential Proclamation declaring the Week of March 8th 1980 as National Women’s History Week. In 1987 Congress passed Public Law 100-9, designating March as “Women’s History Month.”
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men and women are created equal."
- Elizabeth Cady Stanton
Did you know that 2025 marked an all-time high number of women heading up Fortune 500 companies? In the late 1990's there were just two Fortune 500 companies led by women. Today, there are 55 women leading Fortune 500 companies today. Women are also slowly gaining ground in the financial leadership of America’s largest companies. In the 2025 Fortune 500 list, 17.4% of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) roles are held by women, up from 12% in 2015.
"In the future, there will be no female leaders. There will just be leaders."
- Sheryl Sandberg, entrepreneur
“Leading The Change: Women Shaping A Sustainable Future”
The National Women’s History Alliance selects a yearly theme for Women's History Month. This year's Women’s History Month theme is “Leading The Change: Women Shaping A Sustainable Future.”
The 2026 theme honors the women who have and are reimagining and rebuilding systems to ensure long-term sustainability: environmental, economic, educational, and societal. It recognizes the powerful leadership of women in creating a future rooted in equity, justice, and opportunity for all.
"Toughness doesn't have to come in a pinstripe suit."
- Dianne Feinstein
