Lessons Learned from Lou Ludwig: "Will This Matter in a Year?"

My heart plummeted as I saw the paragraph on Facebook that our much respected colleague and mentor, Lou Ludwig was no longer with us. A favorite 'achieve and succeed' member of mine here in the Rain. I read his posts almost every day since joining in 2008.
••• We are unable to predict the future and can
only make decisions based on the here and now. •••
Lou managed to touch many people's hearts, minds and souls. His contributions here, there and everywhere continues on well after his final graduation, there will never be another like him. Carol Williams still honors him in her weekly series, Second Chance Saturday blog.
After calling his phone number, his wife answered, gave me the news without relaying how and I didn't push. I told her that he was a positive, uplifting person with a huge following on ActiveRain, that Lou was an icon for encouragement, positive growth and looking ahead for success.
She thanked me and we rang off.
Lou Ludwig had a way with words, possessing the ability to grab and hold everyone's attention akin to a sports coach, while sending out motivational messages meant to impact the reader. He succeeded for many years here. Hard to believe that next year he will be gone for 10 years.
••• Learn to work -and- live in real time.
Five minutes ago matters little in life. •••
Lou taught me about letting go of things that no longer serve a purpose and to hand back contrived drama-driven situations created by others . Often, I ask myself, "Will this matter a year from now?" and if the answer is no, I gladly let it go. No reason to hold what is not meant!
This in an entry to March 2026's Challenge - Celebrating AR Lives Lost Many thinks to Patricia Feager and Lew Corcoran for hosting March 2026 Challenges.
