Ask An Ambassador: Not Every Point Is Equal

Hello Bill (and Liz too) - I admit I have wondered about the point you present in this post. 

For me, being authentic with my comments is essential as I would hope others would do the same for my postings.  We learn so much from those authentic remarks and often these remarks begin to build trust and eventually relationships. 

Personally, I put a high value on the comments that I get on my posts daily from those that I interact with, even when it is just to wish me a good day.  The connections that can be made from daily interaction are incredibly valuable, especially when referrals are made back and forth!

Good morning and yes, you know I'll agree with this one! Points can be earned by all sorts of activities here, but the most valuable are the ones where real interaction occurs.

I really appreciate this post.  I agree, everyone uses the points differently.  While I do appreciate people who comment on my posts, the comments that seem like they are copied and pasted irritate me, as I feel they only commented to get points.  The comment has nothing to do with what I write.  But I need to be grateful they commented I guess.

Same.  I don't care.  Right now I'm posting a little more because I have a little more time.  And yes, i push the hubby to log in daily and participate because when he retires from the day job I want him to be over that 500k mark.  But I think I can back off, he has months to go and he's close to point mark.

Your post about points and how they can be earned by all sorts of activities here, is spot on. For some its a drive by comment for others it's all about engagement in a meaningful way. I've always felt the most valuable comments are the ones where real interaction occurs.

I am beginning tobe a point hound as I slowly march toward Amassador status!!

Bill unfortunately through the years we have lost several members because they felt they were not gaining points fast enough or have received enough features to stroke their ego.

Many of the points activities are not money making activities. Posting homes for sale and what to do to prepare homes for sale and similar posts especially for Rainmakers give you points and public visibility. Creating can be helpful when the time allows.

Yeah, I’m definitely not perfect in that regard, but I do try to make my points matter whatever the number may be.. :

What I value about the contests is the content engagement that they create. I have learned a lot about my AR friends from these posts.

You are spot on that it should be more about being part of the community and building relationships than racking up the points. Becoming know as the expert in your region and giving and getting referrals from to those you have built a relationship with in the rain from other areas should matter more than the points!

Points smoints.....I haven't cared about them in years. My account has always been free as I started blogging early on.  To me it's about building community and always has been.  Sure I received and gave a lot of referrals as well, but that's because I knew who they were and knew they'd take good care of a referral.

I agree with a lot of you, but I think the main thing is is it building our business and is it feeding our souls And if it is than it’s a go. :)

But Bill.  Bill.  Surely, nobody would do that, Bill.  Surely!

Racking up nickel and dime points is not the metric to improve and chase. It's dig in. The quality of your fresh frequent worthwhile blog posts. The ones that solve problems, visibly lead to more listings that cause more sales and make your bank savings account swell. That's the point to focus on outside the AR platform. 

I agree with Roy Kelley .  It's the knowledge and support I gain being here.  Never the points. 

You make a good point, Bill. This platform is points-based and rewards participation and thoughtful writing, to gain in numbers.
I worked extremely hard to become #1 in my state, am all-in and have been since 2008. Relationships matter to me more than points and that primarily keeps me coming back!

Good morning Bill. The first 500,000 points were a race to. number. Once passed, personally meeting members, speaking with them on the phone, or a text friendship take precedence. Enjoy your day.
