Seems like everyone in every profession is spending a disproportionate amount of time promoting their craft on social media. Is it working? It seems that most of the time, it is NOT working but perhaps we feel good about our effort.
I mentor a lot of young entrepreneurs. I worked with Jay Abraham and the Accounting Minister from Russia on an entreprenurial school in St Petersburg (the Russian one -LoL). We we teaching entreprenurial skills to young entrepreneurs - most of whom recently graduated from St Petersburg College (Putin's alma mater).
We really focused on teaching the students the value of "solving problems" and we paid no attention to social media. We explained that they have to make themselves "useful". Add value, solve a problem...give a learned third opinion with an objective set of fresh eyes. I am very proud that some of my students are very successful now.
One of them has sold a total of $250 Million online over ab.out ten years. He did this by fulfilling a niche....being different and offering somthing that was not available but probably in demand. He sold sweatshirts with the college name on them. High quality sweathshirts. He got the idea from visiting me and he noticed that college aged people frequently wore university sweatshirts.
This was unheard of in Mother Russia. Of course in the USofA he would have to get a licensing agreement with the universities but in Mother Russia, this did not seem to be a problem. He sourced the highest quality hoodies from Turkiye and off he went.
I have noticed that some on the 'Rain have hyper focused on niches and "solved" problems. We all need to be more cognizant of this opportunity!!!
