Some people leave footprints.
Others leave laughter echoing long after they’re gone.
That was Myrl Jeffcoat.
Myrl touched hearts, minds, and funny bones across ActiveRain. She was the spirited founder of the legendary “Old Fart’s Club,” and being featured there felt like earning a badge of honor. Her wit was sharp, her encouragement genuine, and her presence unforgettable.

A retired Realtor from the Greater Sacramento area, Myrl’s 40-year career (1981–2021) reflected her dedication and love for people. But real estate was just one chapter of her remarkable story.
She was a history buff and genealogy researcher, always digging into family roots. She was a gardener who lost track of time among her blooms. A lifelong photography enthusiast. A world traveler. And oh… she could cook!
Myrl gathered recipes the way some people collect souvenirs. Indian, Caribbean, Spanish, Italian, Mexican, Romanian, Hungarian, Irish, Carolina Low Country, you name it. She even loved blending flavors from different cultures to create something entirely her own. If there was a kitchen nearby, Myrl was likely stirring up something special. I especially liked her Greek Cucumber and Tomato Salad with Feta Cheese she served often!

And then there was her annual celebration of International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Every September 19th, she encouraged us to ditch convention and unleash our inner pirate with a hearty “Ahoy, me hearties!” She even shared a pirate stew recipe to complete the festivities. Only Myrl could make pirate-speak feel like a community-building event.

What I treasured most were our exchanges, the laughs, the tears, the mentoring, the encouragement. Myrl had a way of making you feel seen and appreciated. That was her real gift.
She was feisty, funny, wise, and wonderfully original. There will never be another like her.
So today, in true Myrl fashion, let’s raise a glass of our favorite beverage, toast a life well lived, and promise never to forget to celebrate, with humor, heart, and maybe just a touch of pirate spirit.
Ahoy, Myrl. You are greatly missed.
This my entry into March 2026 Challenge#2 - Celebrating AR Lives Lost. Thank you Patricia Feager and Lew Corcoran for hosting.
