Top 10 Reasons People Move to North Carolina
Every year I talk with people from across the country who are thinking about relocating. Many of them have heard good things about North Carolina but want to know what life is really like here. After helping buyers relocate for many years, I can tell you there are some clear reasons why people choose to make this move.
Here are the top 10 reasons people are moving to North Carolina.
1. Mild Weather
North Carolina has four seasons, but the winters are generally mild. Snow is rare in many parts of the state, especially in the central region. Spring and fall are especially beautiful and comfortable. It is beautiful year round.
2. Lower Cost of Living
Many people moving from states like New York, New Jersey, or California find their money goes much further here. Housing costs, property taxes, and everyday expenses are often lower.
3. A Strong Job Market
North Carolina continues to attract major companies in technology, research, healthcare, and finance. Areas like the Research Triangle Park have created thousands of jobs and continue to grow. There are a multitude of industries creating a strong economy for the area.
4. Beautiful Beaches and Mountains
One of the unique things about North Carolina is that you can drive to the mountains or the beach in just a few hours. The Blue Ridge Mountains and the Outer Banks offer incredible scenery and outdoor activities.
5. Great Education Options
North Carolina is home to many respected universities, including Duke, UNC Chapel Hill, and NC State. There are also strong public and private school options throughout the state. This also creates a strong pool of candidates for employers.
6. Growing Communities
Towns across the Triangle area continue to grow with new neighborhoods, shopping, restaurants, and parks. Communities like Cary, Apex, Holly Springs, and Fuquay-Varina are especially popular with buyers. These towns have done a wonderful job maintaining a small time feel with the conveniences of a big city.
7. Outdoor Lifestyle
People who enjoy being active love living here. There are greenways, lakes, hiking trails, golf courses, and parks throughout the state. It is easy to stay active year round.
8. Friendly Communities
Many people tell me they feel welcomed right away after moving here. North Carolina has a reputation for Southern hospitality, and neighbors tend to be friendly and supportive.
9. Access to Healthcare
The Triangle area is known for excellent healthcare systems and research hospitals. Duke Health, UNC Health, and WakeMed are all highly respected providers. This is a must when you're considering where to retire.
10. A Great Quality of Life
When you combine reasonable housing costs, good weather, strong job opportunities, and great communities, you get a high quality of life that attracts people from all over the country.
