National Dress Day👗: The Enduring Allure Of The Dress

National Dress Day👗: March 6th

"A dress is a piece of ephemeral architecture, designed to enhance the proportions of the female body."

... Christian Dior

Oh gosh, I almost forgot... so just in case you still haven't gotten dressed today, it's National Dress Day 👗 ! I, of course, have been dressed for a while... so I might just need to don a dress in honor of National Dress Day tomorrow. Because really, any day is a good day to wear a dress!

National Dress Day is a annual celebration on March 6th, dedicated to honoring the elegance, timeless charm, and versatility of dresses.

National Dress Day

I love wearing dresses. There is something inherently fun about putting on a dress. Whether it’s a flowing sundress that sways with the breeze or a sleek evening gown that exudes sophistication, each dress has its unique way of making me feel special. And then, for those of us who have worn a wedding dress, do we ever forget how special and beautiful we felt in our wedding dresses? Or Dresseshow about our first formal gown? To this day, I remember my white confirmation dress at 13.

"Wearing the correct dress for any occasion is a matter of good manners."

... Loretta Young

I remember the days when pants were not acceptable in business settings. During that time, dresses were not just a fashion statement, but a necessity for professional women. I did not find this limiting. For me dresses provided an avenue for expressing my individuality and style, something men could not do with their classic business suits.

These days, pants, trousers, and leggings have become the norm in many settings, making dresses a less common sight. This shift in fashion trends means that seeing a woman wear a lovely dress can make her stand out in a crowd. I once was hired to sell a home because I wore a dress to the listing appointment! The husband was totally blown away... his wife later told me that after I left their home, he kept saying to her "did you see her? She wore a dress!"

"Over the years I have learned that what is important in a dress is the woman who is wearing it."

... Yves Saint Laurent

One of the most enjoyable aspects of wearing a dress is the myriad of styles and designs available. From classic A-line silhouettes to asymmetrical cuts, there is a dress for every occasion and mood. Playful patterns, vibrant colors, and delicate fabrics all add to the joy of wearing dresses.

"Look for the woman in the dress. If there is no woman, there is no dress."

... Coco Chanel

Do you have any favorite dresses? I certainly do. I'm now looking forward to spring and summer when I can wear my favorite dresses. These warm seasons bring with them the perfect opportunity to showcase those lighter, more colorful dresses that have been tucked away during the colder months. There’s an undeniable pleasure in feeling gentle rustle of a dress as you move.

"Put even the plainest woman into a beautiful dress and unconsciously she will try to live up to it."

... Lucy, Lady Duff-Gordon

Nina Hollander, Broker I was watching Dior's new fashion show on dresses and frills, flowing with dimensions is the rage, so feminine with a structured blazer. Wonderful post as always

I don't wear dresses, even as joke, but I sure appreciate a woman in a dress, especially a sundress. Carol looks great in her dresses and still makes me do double takes often.

Kelly McGovern same here, Kelly. In colder weather if I want to wear something with a skirt, it will be a suit.

Hi Nina- I  used to wear suits and dresses in my earlier career but the last time I wore a dress was to someone's Memorial Service. I did wear sundresses when we lived in FL.

Kathy Streib hi Kathy... I still have many of my suits from my previous life... then again, in NY City we agents did wear "corporate" type clothes, be they suits or tailored dresses.

I don't have any of my dresses or dress/suits from when I was in corporate America. The last time I wore a dress was to a wedding last October. I admit, I did feel quite nice getting dressed up. Maybe I'll have to get a sundress or two for this coming Summer.

Kat Palmiotti hi Kat... obviously, we live in very different climates, but when summer rolls around in Charlotte wearing a dress is so much cooler.

Sharp suits and dresses were my corporate go-to, Nina. Still enjoy dressing up for occasions that call for it, some may think I am overdressed, it's simply untrue. I wore a beautiful, velvet dress for my father-in-law's 90th birthday celebration. Was the only woman who dressed up!

Awe! I love this National Dress Up Day and your images are gorgeous! I especially love the one of you wearing that elegant navy-blue dress! You look stunning!
I am so tired of seeing women in pants. I remember having a hard time finding dresses when I was working.

Patricia Feager thank you sooo much, Patricia. There is something very special about wearing a dress or even a beautiful suit with a skirt. These days it's not easy to find a dress suitable for the work place.
