Since 2020 I have been watching, waiting and admiring the transformation of 720 Frederick Rd into "The Fishmonger's Daughter" IT'S ALMOST READY.
Here is the full journey
Plymouth Wallpaper Building — Key History
📍 Location: 720 Frederick Road, Catonsville
(The building many locals remember as Plymouth Wallpaper)
Early history
• The structure that stands today was built in 1925.
• It originally opened as Heidelbach & Company Grocery Store, considered a high-end or “luxury” grocery market for its time, somewhat like a specialty market today.
• The store even had a large steam-powered brick oven upstairs used for baking and heating the building.
Wallpaper era
• After the grocery closed in the late 1960s, the building became Plymouth Wallpaper Company.
• The wallpaper store was operated by the Singer Swimmer family.
• Plymouth Wallpaper became a longtime Frederick Road landmark and operated there for decades.
Closing
• The Plymouth Wallpaper store closed in 2017 after more than half a century in that space.
Today
• The building is roughly 100 years old.
• The current redevelopment for The Fishmonger’s Daughter has involved preserving historic elements, including original pine floors, structural beams, and even bricks from the old oven.
