🍞Sourdough Saga ~ The Perfect Loaf & Closing🍞

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Beam & Branch Realty TREC #547752

Every now and then, you nail the sourdough loaf! It's so satisfying to see that the dough rose properly, and quite possibly, you will have a beautiful, crusty loaf soon. As I have reported in previous posts, I had yet to get a great loaf until recently! And guess what? The effort paid off.

Oddly enough, a successful real estate transaction feels exactly the same! It's easy to get discouraged when a deal blows up or a client suddenly ghosts you. You've put a lot of work into the deal, and when the deal goes south, you've got to pick up the pieces and move on. And when you close on one of those deals that was practically flawless, it is a great feeling.

Like my sourdough saga, it's not nearly as easy as the gal on the TikTok video who gives us the illusion that making homemade bread is super easy. Likewise, those TV shows that make selling or buying a property look simple, those of us in the biz know there are many more aspects involved in a successful real estate deal.

The key to baking successful sourdough is not to give up! Too many agents who are new to real estate give up before they have given the career a chance. Staying in the kitchen or in the real estate game requires a "can-do" attitude, being able to problem-solve, and staying determined to get the job done.

Whether you are working to master that perfect sourdough loaf or to cross that finish line at the closing table, the key is persistence and keeping your chin up. And just because one loaf rises doesn't mean they all will. Don't lose hope when that deal blows up. The next successful closing is just around the corner!

FYI - Both of these pictures are from my latest sourdough attempt! I was stoked. And guess what? My next successful closing is in a few days. And trust me, I've had many, many really bad sourdough flops and numerous transactions that never made it to closing. Yet, here I am 22+ years later in real estate still seeking that perfect loaf and that perfect closing.

Good morning, Paula... so many things in life are all about never giving up and just trying again and again. Wishing you a successful closing. That loaf of bread looks very good (even though I'm not a sour dough fan).

Thank you, Nina. I have found that the homemade breads are so much better for my system.

Good morning Paula. I have never tried to bake sourdough bread but I have baked plenty of real estate deals and a few learning lessons have flopped. Enjoy your day.

Wayne, you should give it a try. But be prepared for the bricks that may be birthed. When that light, fluffy loaf rises just perfectly, it's a win!

A great analogy that many in the industry can appreciate. Both sourdough baking and real estate transactions require patience, consistency, and a willingness to learn from the attempts that do not turn out as planned. Success often comes after multiple adjustments, and that makes the eventual win feel even more meaningful.

Your point about perception is especially true. From the outside, both baking and real estate can look simple, yet those involved understand the timing, preparation, and problem-solving required behind the scenes. Staying committed through the setbacks is what ultimately builds skill and confidence.

Stories like this remind newer professionals that persistence is part of the journey. Each experience, whether a perfect loaf or a smooth closing, reflects growth earned over time.

Thank you, Gwen. Isn't it true that so many things look way different at first glance?

That is a really good-looking loaf of sourdough, and I bet it tastes really good too!  Currently, I get to enjoy some good sourdough, as I am serving as a guinea pig for someone who is trying to perfect their own loaf, haha.

I bet you could learn, Jeffrey. But it is also ok to just sit back and enjoy the bread without having to do all of the work.

Expert guidance. Exceptional results.

What a fun and spot‑on comparison, Dr. Paula McDonald. Your mix of real talk and encouragement hits just right, and it’s a good reminder that both bread and deals rise on patience, grit, and a little faith in the process. Thanks for sharing this slice of wisdom, it gave me a smile.

Sourdough bread and real estate have a lot in common; both depend on a strong starter!!
