Gaithersburg Junior Mayor Contest

We’re Looking for our Next Junior Mayor

Fourth graders in Gaithersburg are encouraged to write essays telling us what they would do if they were mayor. The theme, to be explored in 275 words or less, is “Where Tradition Meets Innovation.” Students are asked to think about how Gaithersburg can keep its favorite traditions while adding cool new ideas for the future. Finalists will be invited to a panel interview, with the winner being selected as Gaithersburg’s next Junior Mayor. The submission deadline is March 19.

These excersizes are good for getting kids to think about serving their community in a meaningful way Roy Kelley . In reality children at that age have no clue about government works much less a cities infrustructure. I'm sure the best written ones were written by a students parents. Just my humble opinion. 😉

Roy Kelley - this is a great contest for the 4th Graders! I'm glad to know the educators are supporting them in their efforts to make plans to implement for their future. Civic duty and self-servant leadership will make them stronger and wiser.

I love this program, and I am sure that all the kids who participate, whether they win or not, benefit from it.  It reminds me of the lessons I learned as a kid while participating in Teen Court.
