Go To Helen Waite
Helen, the broker of a successful real estate office was known to take care of her agents. A few had gripes or issues, some, like Chad, were chronic complainers, set in their ways. Helen eagerly took each on, putting them at ease or at least she thought.
Suddenly, one morning, every agent was outside her door, frantically knocking, then banging, rattling the window pane, pleading to come inside, impatient to be heard right then. She thought to herself, "What in the world is happening?"
It turns out that Chad, a consistent, disgruntled agent, wasn't happy with Helen's sage advice. On April Fool's Day, he secretly sent an e-mail blast, company-wide that stated:
The brokerage is closing! Most agents will be gone by end of week! If you're feeling hopeless or afraid, Helen Waite is offering walk-in emotional support for the next hour only! No appointment needed!
First come, first served!
Someone snitched on Chad after he was found snickering in the agent lounge area, while eating his lunch. His plan backfired! The owner directed him to, "Go to Helen Waite!" And he did, in a chair, outside her door, until the day's end.
He was asked to leave the brokerage, his license put on probation for a year. Going to Helen Waite wasn't the intended goal but the best remedy. He might think twice about pulling a stunt like that again on April Fools Day!
