Artificial Intelligence is utilized in almost every aspect of the film industry...that is what is left of it after producing so much garbage - Oscars putrid ratings notwithstanding). Its biggest uses are/were editing and marketing and special effects that essentially replaced CGI.
Now....to quote Grace Slick, "This is a new dawn". The departed talent, Val Kilmer has left us. However, he will be starring in a new film, "As Deep as the Grave". Apparenbtly, Val signed on for this movie before his death from throat cancer. His character was entirely reproduced/produced by AI. We have come THAT far.
This marks the first time that a posthumous performance has been entirely generated by the use of AI. In the past, when actors perished before or during a filming, a technique known as "face swapping" was utilized. That process entailed taking another actor with a similar body - height weight etc and replaced the face with CGI generated likeness. It worked...I never heard anyon complain about the revamped character.
AI will take this to a whole new level as the Kilmer character will have his likeness and voice....I am told that you will not be able to tell it is AI. When this is successful, we can expect many new films by departed stars.
For one thiing, I expect people will watch "As Deep as the Grave" just to see the likeness aspect. This alone will generate many ticket sales. IMagine a new movie with Humphrey Bogart....it is probably coming.
Seems fitting/macabre that the title matches the reality of Val Kilmer and his untimely death....I love that saying....because is a death ever timely??
The kerfuffel comes from the legal implications..lawsuits have already been filed.
