Each spring this mysterious flower can bee seen throughout the state of NC reminding us that spring is upon us.
*Not so Wordless Wednesday*
In the Carolina heat, spring arrives in a rush of lavender and violet. The wisteria wakes from its winter sleep, draping heavy, fragrant clusters over old wooden fences and climbing high into the reaching branches of pine trees.
Under a wide, bright sky, the air grows thick with its sweet, heady scent. Petals fall like soft, purple rain onto the red clay earth, a fleeting, beautiful reminder that
winter has finally let go. - AI Gemini

I think Wisteria blooms much later up here in PA. I know I went to Maine on June/July and the rhododendrons and azaleas were in full bloom while ours in PA were all finished.
I didn't realize it was ancient. It's so beautiful. I had never seen it growing wild like this until I moved to NC. I remember so many years ago having to pull over to admire it.
