College Basketball is Getting a Lot of Attention

It is the time of year for basketball lovers as well as those that appreciate heavy competition to enjoy the event known as March Madness. It is the race for the collegiate national championships, for both men and women.

Here in Connecticut, we are watching both the men's and women's tournaments with great intensity. The success of each team over the years has garnered the nickname of Basketball Capital of the collegiate universe as collectively the teams have won more national titles than any other schools.

There are more than 350 schools with possibility of entry into the Division 1 championship. At the conclusion of the league championships, 64 teams on each side begin the elimination. This upcoming weekend, the field is down to what is called the Sweet 16 with elimination down to the Elite 8.

The final weekend, which is also Easter weekend, 4 will compete for the National Championship.

The Women's Championship game is on April 5 and will be played in Phoenix.

The men's Championship is in Indianapolis, IN and will be played on April 6.

The added interest for Connecticut fans, is the potential for both teams to again win the championship in the same year, this has only been done 2 other times, 2004 and 2014, and UConn is the only school to have ever done it.

I will be watching with more than great interest, and hopefully a strong enough heart to see both of them cut down the final nets.

Good morning Ed. March madness has my attention. The rest of the basketball season not so much with NIL making college sports the minor professional league with some athletes making big money who will never get to the big leagues. Good luck to UConn to go all the way.

Wayne Martin  it is all about the money for a lot of the high school kids. It was best exemplified when UConn beat UCLA to get to the sweet 16. He literally said, if you want a championship team, get me $5,000,000 in NIL money

Good morning, Ed... of course, with UConn's history, you would be watching this tournament closely. Me, not so much! Then again, I don't have a horse in this race. Enjoy and hope your teams win.

Are you a big UCONN fan?  You probably weren't happy when my team beat them earlier this year, haha.  I love March Madness and have very high hopes for my team winning it all this year!

So, true Ed Silva, 203-206-0754 and there are quite a few teams that could win it all this year.

Ed Silva, 203-206-0754

Brian England  if one looks at the line-up for the East region any one of those 4 could come out on top, and how it plays out, could make it easier for the other regional winners to take it all.

Oh, our eyes are on March Madness also, Ed Silva, 203-206-0754! My brackets have been busted but, I still have Brian England's AZ and my Dukies in the finals, Duke reining superior, of course!!

I do love your coach. He is the brother of one of our former amazing Duke players. He is a fantastic coach. You guys have been lucky to have him.

As for the ladies and the men, I just told Ray that last night--that Duke has a chance to win both this year. You guys have won it twice; it's our turn!

Lastly, 'a strong enough heart' brought back memories of my mother. 15 years before her passing, I believe, she had her first heart attack. It was watching an ACC football game! My Dad actually had to give her CPR and he had NO clue how to do it. She was assessed to be 'brain dead' in the ER but, with amazing (then) new techniques (body cooling was one of them), she came back to us, The only mental deficit was that she had no memory of the time she was 'out!' My Dad had saved her life!

The moral to that story is, don't watch the games alone if you have an ify ticker! ;-)

Debe Maxwell, CRS   Our teams are both in the same region and it will be a heavy weekend. It is the reason I tale the games so I  can get a reprieve in between

Ed the only way the UCONN Women don't go all the way is if they beat themselves.  They are in a league all their own.  However, I don't think the UCONN Mem will make it beyond the Sweet 16.  They rely way too much on three point shots and do not go to the basket nearly enough.  Hope I am wrong about the men's team.

Ed Silva, 203-206-0754

George Souto   The women are not a surprise to anyone and all season they have gotten the opponent's best shot, and it will be tougher now as they chase for the Final 4
