Wordless Wednesday…The Kids Visit

Larry and I have been busy this week checking on the bluebird boxes. It’s never considered a chore or work.

Box 1: We’re still waiting for the chicks to fledge. We continue to check on them every other day.

Box 2: Larry and I are excited about this one. We haven’t had bluebirds in it for a few years. Last year, we had a wren's nest, which I can only describe as "One Hot Mess!!!"

This week, we discovered a nest that’s almost complete!!!

Fingers crossed for more babies!

Box 3: The chicks are supposed to fledge (leave) today or in the next few days. Mom is still feeding them, so we’ll see!

Our Box: Last week, we were surprised to see that Mama Bluebird had already started building a nest for her second brood of the season.

We now have 5 beautiful little eggs!!!

An extra treat…we saw these four beautiful deer on our walk this week.

And the kids did visit:

Good morning, Kathy... I loved that little video. And that nest of blue eggs is perfect for this week ahead of Easter.

Nina Hollander, Broker the eggs are hard to see because it's so dark inside the nest. I'm always surprised at how small they are.

Kathy Streib that is hard to tell, Kathy, how big or small they are on a picture. To me they don't look all that small.

Dorie Dillard Austin TX After the chicks fledge, we may not see them for a few weeks, when they're bigger. I wish we could tag them so we'd know if the birds are from previous broods.

Hmm, if one of the kids found one of these eggs at the Streib home during the Easter egg hunt, they would be quite surprised, haha.

I think we are about a month behind you.  Blue birds build their nest and move in on Easter weekend each year.  The hummingbirds are back, and now I have to decide whether to feed them or plant flowers that they visit.

I always enjoy your nature posts Kathy!  So cute to see the babies!  We've got quite a few little hummingbirds  learning how to drink water from the fountain.  So fun watching them. They nest in a huge plant we have way back in the corner and there are quite a few of them.  Fun!

Anna "Banana" Kruchten I would love to see a hummingbird nest!!!   I have my eyes open for one. We had a cardinall nest a few years ago. It had 3 eggs but I think a snake got the eggs.

I love these posts Kathy Streib . They also make me jealous as our birds have not even showed up yet.

So I have to ask, is it an April fools to say "These four deer' when I only count 3?

It is very entertaining watching a bluebird build the nest, Kathy and then remove the eggshells from the nest when the eggs hatch. Nature impresses me daily and so do you when you post about these Bluebirds!
