Will AI Replace a Live REALTOR®?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Realty Concierge International MA #9535680 RI#REB0019277

AI can analyze data, draft content, and answer questions quickly, but it can’t live real estate the way a professional does. A great REALTOR® reads the room, senses hesitation, notices the subtle cues during a showing, and understands the emotional weight behind every decision. No algorithm can walk into a home and instantly pick up on the smell of oil heat, the slope in a basement floor, or the tension between buyers trying to stay within budget.

Real estate is human. It’s negotiation strategy, local expertise, intuition, and advocacy. It’s knowing when to push, when to pause, and when to protect your client from a bad deal. AI can’t tour a property, build trust face‑to‑face, or navigate the unpredictable personalities involved in a transaction.

AI is a tool. A REALTOR® is a partner.

And that difference is exactly why clients continue to choose, and rely on, professionals who show up, think critically, and fight for their best interests every step of the way.

Yup, real estate is about the relationship and the knowledge of experience that helps buyers and sellers.  AI can't do that.

Excellent post, Kelly! Yes, no robot/AI can sense the emotions and respond accordingly, nor have the intuition that it takes to navigate Real Estate successfully. It's a tool, that should not solely relied upon. Fact-checking & verifying any and all info it puts out is absolutely necessary.

Maryland Law requires anyone giving out detailed information regarding a property for sale in the state needs to be licensed. I don't believe an AI assistant can obtain a real estate license.

Well said Kelly McGovern .  AI won't replace Realtors, but it will/has changed the Real Estate world.

I wrote about this just recently as well. I agree, there are human aspects that AI can never, ever replace.

Artificial Intelligence will be an excellent to use for a real estate agent but it will not replace the agent.

Hi Kelly,

What a fantastic and concise explanation as to how a portion of us will not be replaced by an AI robot! But one never knows what science and invention will produce and come up with many years from now, when we are all gone.  However, for now, we are all pretty much safe from AI.  It's that human touch that I hope and pray will never go out of style!

Kelly McGovern AI can glean and scrape the Internet and spit back the cold calculated summation. Kinda making the google search before AI seem primitive. But what it collects must be already online to copy. To fetch like a bone. Spit out the same sing song tired retrieved generic summary.

But New England based Kelly is the little red hen with passion, personality, fire in her belly excitement. Brimming with personal genuine local experience from years of training, boots on the ground practice, continuous trial and error knowledge.

Kelly instinctively knows what will  or won't work and why and how to pivot to get to the closing on time. She deals up close personal with real estate buyers and sellers of all kinds. Can offer highly specialized, lay of the land, hyper local personal expertise.

Her critical thinking authority, empathy and advice is better than anything found online. Because everything SHE knows is hand made original from blood, sweat and tears experiences. Not online machined to copy and paste. RTZ and AI can't replace real live and local with soul. Just like it can not replicate the band Cream's talent.

Good morning Kerri. The agent is the mechanic. The good mechanic has a full tool box. AI is in one of the drawers and needs to be used not abused. Enjoy your day.

It will be sad if we lose the human element in a real estate transaction, but then again, I have dealt with a lot of humans who didn't necessarily deal fairly, haha.

Good morning, Well said!... and I think this really gets to the heart of what people sometimes miss about AI. It’s incredibly powerful for efficiency, research, and support, but it doesn’t replace lived experience or human connection.

Buying or selling a home isn’t just a transaction, it’s emotional, personal, and often stressful. Having someone who can read between the lines, advocate in real time, and guide clients through uncertainty is something technology simply can’t replicate.

The strongest approach is using AI to enhance what great professionals already do not replace it. When you combine smart tools with real expertise and genuine care, that’s where clients get the most value.

Strong take 👏 AI can support with data and speed, but the real value in real estate is still human judgment, negotiation, and trust. The best results will come from professionals who use AI as leverage—not a replacement.

I agree with most of the comments here of course. Realtors are lucky, because they do have a job that requires human interaction. We need an actual human to bake cookies at the Open House and smile, and be warm. AI is a time saver. AI should be about helping you with repetitive tasks. Now-- in my mortgage business-- underwriters and loan processors will be the first to go. The more "physical" your job is- the safer you are. I am going to be writing a lot about AI and how it can help Realtors, MLOs, Stagers and Appraisers.
