Every Home Has a Story

By
Real Estate Agent with The Top Team @ Charles Rutenberg Realty 255 Executive Dr, Plainview NY 11803
Last week at a showing, something unexpected happened.

The seller’s 6-year-old son quietly took the lead. He walked us through the home like it was his job, pointing out where his family gathers for dinner, where the dog claims its spot, the hallway he turns into a racetrack, and even a “secret” fort tucked behind his bed.

It wasn’t scripted. It felt natural and fun.

And it raises a question most people don’t think about.

When buyers walk into your home, what do they feel?

Because they’re not just seeing square footage or upgrades. They’re trying to picture their own routines, their own moments, their own story happening there.

That little tour? It wasn’t about the house.
It was about connection.

And that’s what gets homes sold.

Every home has a story. The question is, are we telling it in a way buyers can see themselves in it?

Stay tuned for our next one.

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 - that was the sweetest and most natural home tour I ever saw virtually in my head. It had to be a great day. When a well behaved child acts like an adult, it has to be a day to remember.

Good morning, Sheila and Larry. That is a very good question. More often than not I see agents focusing on facts about four walls and a roof. They say nothing about living in a home. Facts don't sell a home... they are just an introduction to the home. Lifestyle is what sells a home.

Good morning Larry and Sheila. Your job is to help buyers see the potential of making the space personal. Ask questions and wait for the answers. Get them to think how they would use the space. Sometimes it will be time to move on and sometimes it time to reduce their thoughts to writing. Enjoy your day.

This is a wonderful reminder that buyers connect emotionally before they ever think logically about a home. That moment with the child telling the story of how the space is used is exactly what helps buyers picture their own lives unfolding there. It shifts the focus from features to feelings, and that is often what creates the strongest interest.

Telling the story of a home is one of the most powerful parts of marketing. When buyers can see how spaces live day to day, it becomes more than a showing—it becomes a vision of their next chapter. Creating that connection is what turns a house into something memorable, and ultimately, what drives a successful sale.

I love that, and I always love seeing kids react to houses that we are seeing, although most prospective buyers don't bring their kids along for showings.

I love white, but I must say the overuse of the color is making showings seem sterile. I think a house must have the appeal of a home.

Happy Monday, Larry and Sheila- I love this post!  For many of us, buying a home, isn't only about price per square foot or the age of the appliances.  How we feel as soon as we walk through the door plays a big part in our decision.

Homes like vacant land speak to the buyers as you aptly demonstrated in this case. Thank you for sharing a great story.

I would love it if a child showed me around their home and gave me their perspective on living there.  Thank you for sharing.

Everyone that walks into a  house is seeking that which best relates to their personal choices. Whether it be how to use the kitchen when cooking, or the space in the garage for the tools, or even how do we best position the beds.
