Eat Your Way  Through Charlotte's Best Bites: StrEATs Festival 2026

What It’s Like to Experience Charlotte’s Food Scene at the Annual StrEATs Festival

If you’re looking for a snapshot of what makes Charlotte such a great place to live, the Charlotte StrEATs Festival on April 11–12, 2026 is a pretty good place to start. For newcomers and people moving to Charlotte, this is the kind of event that helps them quickly get a feel for the local culture. You’re not just hearing about the restaurant scene—you’re experiencing it all in one place.

Back for its 5th year—and now set in Uptown at First Ward Park—this event brings together a big piece of what’s driving Charlotte’s growth: local restaurants, small businesses, and a community that actually shows up to support them. 2,650 people attended in 2025.

Held in partnership with Charlotte SHOUT!, StrEATs has evolved into more than just a food festival. It’s a reflection of how much the city’s dining and social scene has expanded over the past few years—and why so many people relocating here are excited about it.

Saturday Tasting Tour: Charlotte’s Top Restaurants in One Place

Saturday is the ticketed tasting experience (12–3 p.m.;  11 a.m. for VIP ticket holders). The Saturday Tasting Tour is built for anyone who wants to sample a wide range of Charlotte’s locally-owned restaurants in one afternoon. Instead of picking one spot for dinner, you get a little bit of everything—chef-driven dishes, creative cocktails, and the chance to see what different parts of the city’s food scene are doing right now.

🗓️SCHEDULE:

11:20 a.m. – Welcome from festival co-hosts Kristen Wile and Casey Wilson

11:30 a.m. – Sutler’s Spirits Cocktail Demo with Sean Teague of Symposia

12:00 p.m. – Cooking Demo with Sam Diminich, Restaurant Constance

12:35 p.m. – Slate Belt Spirits Cocktail Demo with Justin Hazelton of Lorem Ipsum

2:30 p.m. – Espolón Tequila Cocktail Demo with Jenna Reynolds (Duckie) of Hermanita

2:45 p.m. – StrEATs Best Bite Awards

If you’re debating the VIP ticket, the one-hour early entry alone can be worth it. Shorter lines, first pick of everything, and a more relaxed start before the crowd fills in. BUY YOUR TICKETS FOR THE SATURDAY TASTING TOUR.

Free Sunday Events: A More Laid-Back Charlotte Festival

Sunday (12–5 p.m.) is free and has a much more relaxed, neighborhood feel. It’s the kind of day where you can drop in, walk around, and stay as long—or as short—as you want.

One of the Sunday highlights is the Neighborhood Cook-off Battle, where eight local chefs 👨‍🍳 will compete head-to-head for the title of Neighborhood Champion 2026. It’s part competition, part entertainment, and a good excuse to hang around and see who takes the title.

Cook-Off At Charlotte's StrEATs Festival

🗓️SCHEDULE:

2:00 p.m. – Round 2: Oscar Johnson (West Charlotte) vs Maria Gonzalez (SouthPark)

3:50 p.m. – Final Battle will feature the winner of Round 1 vs the winner of Round 2 The winning chef will take home $1,000, a trophy, and bragging rights as the 2026 StrEATs Neighborhood Champion.

There’s also an Artisan Market with local vendors, plus plenty of food trucks if you’re just looking to grab something casual.

Food, Cocktails & Local Vendors in Uptown Charlotte

Beyond the restaurant tastings, StrEATs also gives plenty of space to local vendors and small food businesses. The Artisan Market features a curated mix of Charlotte-based makers—think specialty sauces, baked goods, packaged foods, and other culinary finds you can take home.

If you’re into cocktails🍹 🍸 , the tasting wristbands are a solid option. You’ll get five different craft cocktails from local mixologists, which is a fun way to try something new without committing to a full drink.

Food trucks 🚚 are another big part of the festival on Sunday. It’s a more casual way to experience the local food scene, with everything from quick bites to more creative street food options.

For a more relaxed setup, pre-ordering one of the curated picnic baskets,🧺 prepared by Charlotte's top caterers, lets you skip the lines and just enjoy the afternoon—and it supports the Charlotte StrEATs Foundation at the same time.

Why StrEATs Festival Reflects Charlotte’s Lifestyle

This year's move to First Ward Park just makes the whole event work better—more space, easier to move around, and a layout that feels manageable even when it’s busy. It puts the event right in the middle of Uptown, with more room to spread out and a layout that’s easier to navigate—something that makes a noticeable difference if you’ve ever been to a crowded festival. 📍Directions to First Ward Park.

Events like the StrEATs Festival highlight something we’re seeing more and more: people aren’t just buying homes—they’re buying into a lifestyle. Walkability, local dining, and community events all factor into where buyers are choosing to live.

Whether you’re already here or considering a move, this is the kind of weekend that offers a great snapshot of Charlotte’s vibrant lifestyle...  from local dining to outdoor events and everything in between.

Good morning Nina. Sounds like an event that I would like to attend. I like to sample variety. That said, like you I abhor crowds so I would have to buy a VIP ticket for Saturday or pass on the event. Go VIP if you go.

Wayne Martin hi Wayne... I also avoid crowded events, but this one is quite fun... and now that they moved it off the streets and into the park it will be easier to navigate.

Charlotte always seems to be having different festivals highlighting their restaurant scene which is great. This sort of event would definitely be on our calendar

Our local REALTOR association has put on a "street" eats on Rt 66 for the several years. There are food vendors, children bouncy house, band and beer garden.

Leanne Smith hi Leanne... these kinds of events are very popular in the Charlotte area, but they are generally not sponsored by the Realtor Association... ours has 10+K member in two states and dozens of counties. It would be hard to cover all the areas and keep agents happy that their area also "got" something.

Being a smaller association does have some benefits. I can understand why a much large association would have challenges keeping all agents happy.

Hi Nina- I love events like this.  While I don't mind crowds, I'd be better if I didn't have to search for a parking space.   That said, I'd be torn between ordering a basket or doing my own sampling.

Apr 10, 2026 10:26 AM
Nina Hollander, Broker

Kathy Streib hi Kathy... I'd rather walk around and sample... more options that way. Parking is always an issue for things like this. I can take the Charlotte light rail and park at my station if I wanted to avoid the parking in Uptown.
