Motivational Monday…Are You the Remedy or the Problem?
It’s easy to point out who or what is to blame when something goes wrong. We’ve all been in situations like this at work or in our personal lives.
Don’t find fault, find a remedy; anybody can complain.
Henry Ford

Turn on the news (if anyone still does) and you’ll see finger-pointing and blame being thrown out like confetti at a party. All this does is add to the existing problem. In the end, all of that confetti is swept up and thrown away.
And what happens to the solution? It’s swept to the side along with everything else.
When I worked for a staffing company, there was a month when nothing seemed to go right. Our placements were leaving before the end of their guarantee period, our pipeline of new client companies seemed clogged, and our applicants were not getting hired.

I wanted to pull my hair out during the meeting because everyone was speaking at once…sharing their thoughts on who was at fault. It was the economy; our guarantee was bad; our testing methods were bad. We should have….lots of that going around.
Finally, when there was a break in the finger-pointing, the owner, who had been listening to all of this, held his hands up
He spoke calmly and asked Ok, who has a solution? Only speak if you have one.
You could have heard a pin drop. Bupkes.
It’s easy to share your opinion on what went wrong, isn’t it? Don’t get me wrong- at some point, we need to know this. However, some issues or situations need an immediate solution!
Solutions are not found by pointing fingers; they are reached by extending hands.

What if you don”t have an immediate answer for a solution? What can you do?
-Offer a suggestion, even if it is for a small part of the issue
-Ask how you can help
-Step back and try to see the whole picture from a different perspective.

Whatever the problem, be part of the solution. Don’t just sit around raising questions and pointing out obstacles.
Tina Fey
The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world's problems.
Mahatma Gandhi
So as we begin the week…what solutions will you be bringing to the table?
