I Wasn’t Supposed To Be There
Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 wrote a post on Monday about homes and the stories they have. You can read it here.
It reminded me of the time we sold our home in Leesburg, VA.
The potential buyers lived a few blocks from our home and wanted something larger. They wanted to take a second look and asked if they could bring their son, who was not happy about the move.

I did something I always told my staging clients NOT to do…I didn’t leave.
It wasn’t that I didn’t want to leave—I couldn’t. I had already scheduled a contractor to handle a simple repair. The potential buyers were on a tight timeline as they were catching a plane for a family function that night. They were hoping to decide on the home before they left.
I wasn’t supposed to be there.
My agent and I agreed that I would let them in, then go out to our deck while their agent accompanied them through the house.
Here’s what I didn’t expect…
The family’s son came out to the deck and was unhappy. He told me he didn’t want to move because he’d be leaving all of his friends. He wanted to stay where they were living. (only a few blocks away!)
So, I asked him if he liked watching the fireworks from the nearby shopping area. Of course he did. I pointed and showed him that you could see the fireworks from the deck. And as if on cue, the deer in the woods behind the house started approaching our feeder.

I also suggested that his friends would love watching the fireworks with him from the deck.
I may have overstepped, but the sad little boy who stepped out on the deck went back inside and told his parents he was ready to move.
And they did!!!
