Good morning, Wayne... just one again for me today. From what  Chinese dialect did ketchup originate? I had the equivalent of two years of Mandarin in college and never heard this.

I did not research it, just got the question wrong and looked at the answer without challenge. Having investigated it came from Hakkien Chinese, which may mean something to you but not me Nina Hollander, Broker. .

Thanks, it's all Chinese to me. I figured as much once you asked the question.

Wayne Martin it's a dialect of Chinese. The Chinese language has between 7-10 major dialects. But there are actually some 300 additional dialects. Hakkien is not one I'd heard of.

Well, yesterday was a confirmed one and today another maybe two.  Good morning. Truly enjoy these trivia questions. Never thought the Ketchup was Chinese. Possibly the old spelling Catsup might be the origin.
