We've been in the Rain for almost 20 years. A lot has changed in those years. Maybe there's not as many people actively blogging and maybe comment counts are down, and maybe SEO isn't what it used to be, and it's probably been over a decade since the last time I saw a post hijacked.
But what hasn't changed is relationships that last decades can be formed here. The early days of learning to blog, sharing the latest real estate tips, learning about each other on a personal basis, all that provided a solid foundation to develop both professional and personal bonds. I've actually met a fair number of Rainers in person, and talked and emailed to many more.
The interactions may have moved outside of the Rain as people come and go. Yesteryear's blog post comment chat morphs into today's texts and Facebook messages.
The people I'll refer don't have to be active in the Rain for me to put in a good word for them if another Rainer needs a recommendation. Some of the people I respect most in this business haven't posted here in years and years, but the relationships started here.
Trust was formed. Evidence of how they handle tough times and jackasses, and how they handle the good times too, all contribute to shaping a reputation that gives you confidence that you can trust your own reputation on their abilities.
So if you ask me for a recommendation, I'm not just thinking about who's still in the Rain, but also those that made the right impressions years ago.
It started here, but it doesn't have to end here.
