Wordless Wednesday…M.I.A.

More news from the world of bluebirds!  We still have two empty boxes. We’ll even take a brood of wrens or chickadees.

Our Box 4, on its second brood had two eggs last week. Two more were laid, so we’re now waiting for 4 baby chicks to hatch.

The Box at Casa Streib still has six chicks but they’ve grown so much that they are ready to fledge.

Now for the M.I.A…

Last week in Box 2, there was one unhatched egg and a baby chick. All was well when we checked the box on Saturday. However, look what I found when I checked the box yesterday…

Was it a snake? Another bird? A raccoon??

Who knows?

On a lighter note, isn’t this the cutest couple? I saw these two cardinals at our window feeder. You can always tell the males of the species because they’re the most colorful.

Did you know that cardinals often mate for life?  I love seeing the male feed his mate.

Until next week!

Good morning Kathy. What does Larry the landlord think? He is the expert. I'll go with his opinion. Enjoy your walks.

Thank you for sharing! Is box two close to the ground? I'm betting on a bird not a snake....

And I love the cardinal couple!

Kat Palmiotti we don’t have a baffle on that pole so a snake could have climbed in a bird - maybe even a raccoon! I love watching cardinals feed each other

Good morning, Kathy... it would break my heart to find baby birds missing. I love cardinals... they are really beautiful and every so often I see one on my fence.

Nina Hollander, Broker mine too. We were at Green Cay Wetlands in FL and saw a large heron with a baby red winged blackbird in its claws. There was nothing we could do. I wanted to cry.

Maybe you need to install a bigger vacancy sign in order to fill the two empty boxes with birds, haha.

Kathy Streib Oh dear me, who knows? Cardinals are such beautiful birds. They also come to visit me in our feeder, as do the doves. It is so interesting watching birds.

Hi Kathy:

I always enjoy your bird updates...even if all the news is not positive!

We don't have cardinals in my area but they were certainly plentiful back in New England...and so pretty, especially against the winter snow.

Jeff

Kathy in the bird and animal kingdom it is the male that is always most colorful or like the lions the male has the most hair, and the females tend to be very plain.
