Are You SURE Your Business Has the Kind of Curb Appeal You Want?
It happened again. Larry is considering a new top for our Jag. Even though it’s kept in the garage when not in use, the South Florida sun and salt air is hard on everything. (Why does it always happen with cars???)
I’ve been making calls here in the Houston area, and I wonder how some have any customers at all.
One business put me on hold until I’d listened to more music than I do when I’m listening for pleasure. Another business said they’d have their owner call me back. (still waiting) And yet another said I’d have to bring the car in before they could even tell me if they could work on it.

Agents and home stagers talk about the importance of curb appeal when selling a home. However, the same is true about our business.
Whether you’re part of a larger company, a small team, or a one-person machine, how you are perceived at the first point of contact can make a difference.
IMPORTANT INITIAL TOUCHPOINTS
The Call
The owner of the staffing company I worked for wanted phones answered in no more than 3 rings. It was ingrained in us. People today don’t like to wait. They’ll hang up if no one picks up.
Your tone is like the greeting someone receives when they walk into your home. If you sound as if the caller has interrupted something important, you’re already behind.
The outgoing message. There are times when it may not be possible to answer your phone, such as when you’re with clients. But think about what your outgoing message says.
“I’ll return your call at MY earliest convenience.”
I don’t know about you, but it sounds like the caller isn’t important.
