How not to impress a prospect

A week or so ago I received this message:Not impressed with this

Hello,

I was fascinated by your website's potential when I recently came upon it. It may stand out even more with a contemporary update, improving user experience, boosting engagement, and more successfully highlighting the worth of your business.

I'd be pleased to offer some customized suggestions and a thorough cost analysis if you've been thinking about redesigning. We would be delighted to hear more about your objectives, specifications, and desired features.

Would you be willing to have a brief conversation to talk more about this?

Warm regards
...........
I wasn't interested, so didn't reply.

Today I received a message with the subject line: Reminder

The message was: "Hi there, I'm still awaiting your replay. Thank you"

And yes, it did say replay, not reply. Either way - she's still not going to get a reply.

What makes people think if you scold them they're going to respond positively?

Makes no sense to me.

Thanks for sharing some of your experience.

Oh yes we do, Roy Kelley - I have well over 100 per day that go straight to my junk folder, then probably that many more that I delete as I go through the inbox.

Good morning Marte,

OMG..it's so annoying! I've been getting emails for website re-design, assistant, accountant etc. Then they they follow up 2 and 3 times! I'm not answering!

Dorie Dillard Austin TX I don't get too annoyed when they follow up, but when they follow up with an arms-crossed, foot-tapping attitude of "Why haven't you replied yet?" it makes me cross.

Good morning Marte. Telling me how bad my product is and they are the solution doe snot get my favor. Maybe call me old fashion but criticism is not the way to introduce yourself. Enjoy your day.

Wayne Martin - I agree. No one rushes to hear criticism from a stranger.

I get these emails often - thankfully they usually go straight to Spam. And I often get the follow up email without ever getting the first one. The senders think we're dumb.

Kat Palmiotti - I sometimes wonder if they get takers from these rude, demanding emails. I hope not!

That is a perfect example of how not to start a relationship. If the first interaction feels generic or pushy, it is hard to take anything that follows seriously.

First impressions matter, and communication should feel intentional and respectful. A thoughtful, well-written message goes much further than a follow-up that feels like pressure.

Being rude and demanding in the follow up is the perfect path to rejection!
