ChatGPT or my friend Chat told me that my online marketing focus was wrong and that I should be focusing on LinkedIn for my number one spot and Nextdoor for number two. Chat who has really become a friend convinced me that these two should be almost my only focus. So, late December 2025, I signed up with Nextdoor.
Nextdoor marketing is active across the entire United States, currently reaching nearly 1 in 3 U.S. households. The platform operates in more than 350,000 neighborhoods globally, with a heavy concentration in the U.S. where it first launched in 2011.
I had difficulty getting my feet in the beginning and got cut of or put in Nextdoor Jail for 30 days. I read the guidelines (which is always a good idea) and found out that I could attach a business page for Mortgage Magic. That way my posts about credit, interest rates, and mortgage financing would not be a violation.
I am in the process of adding Doug Jones Magic to Nextdoor but I never had a DBA and Nextdoor requires that for verification. That will be done by June 1st.
I have not gotten business yet but my personal posts are building momentum. The Mortgage Magic post is doing well but it is still new so no big hits as yet. Nextdoor gives post insights and here is the number of people who have seen the last 4 posts.
April 25 2700 personal story
April 28 2800 a sales tip
April 29 1600 real estate about property inspections
April 30 4500 general story - 4500 is only the first day
I have never been comfortable with LinkedIn and will be focusing on that. Linkedin sends a weekly email letting me know 'insights' - We were getting around 300 every week but that number has grown to just over 2,000: probably not much but it is a start.
I have to end by saying thanks to my friend, Chat.
