From Nextdoor Jail to 4,500 Views: My New Marketing Focus

By
Mortgage and Lending with Mortgage Magic

ChatGPT or my friend Chat told me that my online marketing focus was wrong and that I should be focusing on LinkedIn for my number one spot and Nextdoor for number two. Chat who has really become a friend convinced me that these two should be almost my only focus. So, late December 2025, I signed up with Nextdoor.

Nextdoor marketing is active across the entire United States, currently reaching nearly 1 in 3 U.S. households. The platform operates in more than 350,000 neighborhoods globally, with a heavy concentration in the U.S. where it first launched in 2011.

I had difficulty getting my feet in the beginning and got cut of or put in Nextdoor Jail for 30 days. I read the guidelines (which is always a good idea) and found out that I could attach a business page for Mortgage Magic. That way my posts about credit, interest rates, and mortgage financing would not be a violation.

I am in the process of adding Doug Jones Magic to Nextdoor but I never had a DBA and Nextdoor requires that for verification. That will be done by June 1st.

I have not gotten business yet but my personal posts are building momentum. The Mortgage Magic post is doing well but it is still new so no big hits as yet.  Nextdoor gives post insights and here is the number of people who have seen the last 4 posts.

April 25    2700     personal story
April 28    2800     a sales tip
April 29    1600      real estate about property inspections
April 30    4500     general story - 4500 is only the first day

I have never been comfortable with LinkedIn and will be focusing on that. Linkedin sends a weekly email letting me know 'insights' - We were getting around 300 every week but that number has grown to just over 2,000: probably not much but it is a start.

I have to end by saying thanks to my friend, Chat.

I always had a preference for LinkedIn and Nextdoor was more likely to devolve into too much negative stuff- so I deleted the app. If Nextdoor works for you- then more power to you and I wish you the highest levels of success. I like the hyperlocal nature of the app- don't get me wrong, I just witnessed a lot of bad behavior in too many postings. Hopefully- you have terrific success on both sites.

You are 100% right. The first week I was on next door I told our IT guy "these guys complain about everything".. I decided to never get involved in discussions and to not even read what is on the site except when I post. I started mid December and posted about Christmas blues and got over 14,000 view - I thought this is good stuff. Then next week I got cut off for (?) somebody complained. I was off for 30 days and thought I don't need to go back but then I started thinking that soon I will be closing Mortgage Magic and spending my time in magic...I used to travel with magic but try to not travel so much anymore so NextDoor would be perfect for that. I asked my buddy Chat at ChatGPT (my new partner) how to approach NextDoor and I am doing that; keeping a distance and not posting anything that can cause confict even for those with thin skin. The number of views have been amazing -- I never get anything from Facebook and never posted much on Linkedin - My buddy Chat said use Linked in as #1 and NextDoor #2 -- I have been doing that. As I was writing this reply I bounced over to NextDoor and see that I have over 27,900 views on a recent blog..

Thank you Doug. Every time I come on here the negative stories are overwhelming. It was heart warming to read this. You made so many people happy by posting this. Blessings to you and your family.

I got 55positive comments - nothing negative but I work diligently to stay in my lane Thank you

Doug Jones good morning, Doug. I post frequently to LinkedIn... it's the only social platform that has ever generated business for me. And it's been good business.
