Spiritual Sunday ~ It's the Little Things

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Beam & Branch Realty TREC #547752

I received this sourdough starter from a baking class I attended a few weeks ago. We learned all about the care and feeding of our starter. This particular starter is named Jane Dough. Clever, but I didn't name her. My cousin has one name, Kneady B. That made me giggle.

So why am I focused on this sourdough starter? Well, I take care of it, have been discarding and experimenting using both the discard and the starter, and just learning the art of sourdough. It's been a journey.

The other day, I went in to check on Jane Dough and was so delighted to see a full rise in my jar! When you see the starter double like this with all of those wonderful bubbles, you know that starter is ready, Freddie!

That simple joy from seeing a plant grow, watching a baby smile, delighting in your sweet pet being at your side, and yes, even seeing a sourdough starter grow! I never want to live my life so fast that I miss the little things that are all around me. These simple joys can turn a bad day into a wonderful day.

Choose to see the small things and then be grateful for each smile in your life. May you fully LIV2DAY! Happy Sunday!

Paula, I have done sourdough starter also, but has been years.  Maybe once I get to Portugal, will do that again.

I can't wait to follow your adventures in Portugal, Joan. My cousin was there last year, and her pictures are outstanding.

Good afternoon Paul,

I love this and can't wait to see your finished product! I'd be smiling too if that was my started! I've done that years ago and it's so fun!

Thank you, Dorie. I am working on mastering the croissant. Not easy.

Hi Paula... I totally agree that it's those small moments in daily life that put a smile on our faces and in our hearts. It's easy to miss them if we spend our days just rushing around.

Such a meaningful reminder. It’s easy to overlook the small, everyday moments, but those are often the ones that bring the most steady joy.

The way you tied the care of your starter to patience and consistency really resonates. Just like in life, the results don’t happen all at once, but with attention and time, they show up in a way that feels rewarding.

A good message for slowing down, paying attention, and appreciating what’s right in front of us.

Thank you, Gwen. The key is to slow down! I forget to do that sometimes.

Awe, come on, Kelly, you can do it! Trust me, I have gone through many trial-and-error moments with this craft.

Hi Paula- Larry used to have a sourdough starter and we had wonderful sourdough bread to eat and to share. Since we rearely do bread anymore, I have no idea what happened to the starter.

And yes, learning to appreciate the little things is good medicine for the soul. If I get a spike or bud on an orchid, I am elated.

What I am enjoying about sourdough is that the bread and pasta I make from it do not hurt my stomach.

I love it when people come up with cute names like that for things that don't necessarily need names, haha.  Homemade sourdough is so delicious!  I am blessed that someone makes homemade sourdough for me.

I know Brian - that one was clever! You are blessed to have someone making this for you, too!

I can related to your joy of creating something from scratch. Few of my friends are getting very good with sour bread~ I'm not there yet. But I got good with kombucha~ also a live culture that needs some love:)
