This post is actually about fences.
Yesterday's post was about humans eating bugs. Today I'm talking about dogs and guinea pigs.
I am pretty sure that most dogs would make a meal out of a guinea pig if one was set before them.
If we still had a guinea pig they would not find much comfort in our chain link fence. That being said we did lose a guinea pig for about 48 hours who escaped it's little outdoor pen and hid next to a grapevine covered chain link fence.
So this blog is actually a blog about fences.
Let me tell you about our neighbors chain link fence. Between their home and ours is a professionally installed chain link fence. The rest of the backyard is a Hodge Podge of 3' wire fencing that includes a few wood pallets to fill in troublesome gaps.
That mix was good for their old bull dog who was to old and tired to dig or jump. Their little yipper dog always found ways to get out... like a rabbit it could easily walk through most gaps. Creed (the bull dog) died and they replaced him with a pit bull which I believe consumes 3 cappuccinos after every nap.
To borrow and twist the famous line from the movie Sierra Madre, said pit bull says "I don't need no stinkin fences".
She, Violet, flies over that fence as if it wasn't even there. It's fun to see, and luckily Violet is very friendly to us humans. However I'm not so sure a guinea pig would appreciate her ability to fly.
When it comes to fences, if you want to keep your dog in your yard and the neighbors dog in their yard hire a professional. Let the fencing company know what your goal is. Is the fence for the reason stated above as about options. If you want a fence for privacy let them know that is your goal. Call the people who know their product. Chances are you are going to need to see your banker BUT at least you will know that the fence will meet your needs and still be standing after a little wind or a flying dog.
