Where Are All the Swimming Pools in Big Bear?

If you are moving to the mountains, you might expect to trade your swimsuit for a parka. But when summer hits the San Bernardino Mountains, the first thing many new residents and visitors ask is: "Where can I go for a swim?"

While the "mountain pivot" is all about hiking trails and ski slopes, finding a traditional swimming pool in the Big Bear Valley requires a little local insider knowledge. Whether you are in Big Bear Lake, Big Bear City, Fawnskin, or Sugarloaf, here is the lowdown on where to find the water.

1. Big Bear Lake: The Hub for "Day Pass" Luxury

Big Bear Lake has the most options, but you won't find a giant public municipal pool in the center of town. Instead, the "pool scene" here is dominated by hotels and private clubs that offer access—for a price.

  • Hotel Day Passes: This is the trendiest way to get pool access in 2026. The Hotel Marina Riviera offers a Pool & Spa Day Pass through services like ResortPass. You can enjoy a lakeside pool, hot tub, and even cedar saunas without being an overnight guest.

  • Sierra Blue Hotel & Swim Club: Located near The Village, this newly renovated spot features a retro-chic indoor pool and wellness room. While primarily for guests, it’s a top choice for those looking for a "work-from-mountain" lifestyle with pool amenities.

  • The Alternative: Meadow Park Swim Beach: If you prefer the lake to chlorine, Meadow Park is the only area with a designated swim beach and lifeguards on duty during the summer. There is a small admission fee (typically $10 for adults and $5 for kids/seniors), making it the most "public" feel you’ll get in the valley.

2. Big Bear City & Sugarloaf: Community & Campsites

In Big Bear City and Sugarloaf, the vibe is much more residential and quiet. You won't find high-end hotel pools here, but there are a few hidden spots:

  • Community Parks: While places like Sugarloaf Park and Erwin Lake Park offer great playgrounds and picnic pavilions, they do not have swimming pools.

  • Campsites: Some of the larger RV resorts in the Big Bear City outskirts occasionally offer pool access to their residents or campers. However, these are strictly private or require a stay.

3. Fawnskin: The North Shore Secret

Fawnskin is the "artistic retreat" of the lake, and it keeps its swimming options tucked away.

  • Big Bear Shores RV Resort: This is one of the few places on the North Shore with a private pool. It is an upscale gated community, so access is generally restricted to owners and guests.

  • Grout Bay & North Shore Landing: Most Fawnskin locals skip the pool entirely and head to the quieter "North Shore" pockets of the lake for a dip, though you won't find lifeguards here.

How to Get Access: 3 Pro-Tips

  1. Use ResortPass: If you aren't a local with a private pool, check ResortPass for the Hotel Marina Riviera or similar boutiques. It’s the easiest way to get "hotel guest" treatment for a day.

  2. Stay "Lakeside": If you are buying or renting, look for "Lakefront Cabins." Many of these in Big Bear Lake offer direct water access or private docks, which is the mountain version of having a backyard pool.

  3. Check the Season: Most outdoor pools and the Meadow Park Swim Beach are strictly seasonal, typically opening in late June and closing by September.
