Friday Flags: The Wind 'was-a-blowin' in Waterbury CT

At a recreational park in the East Mountain section of Waterbury last week, it was not difficult to notice the flag at the top of the pole, for the way the wind was trying to pull it off.

It was not only extending the flag, but the gusts were causing the pole to bend as well.

I thought for sure that the flag would be ripped away with the gusts, but it stood proud and resilient. A true testament to the legacy we have created as a country for almost 250 years.

Eventually the wind did slow down a bit and the pole didn't bend, and the flag didn't rip.

Against the blue sky, it was well worth a few minutes to appreciate.

Good morning, Ed... you can "feel" that wind just from your photo. I'm delighted that the pole and flag remained standing and proud.

Nina Hollander, Broker   Nina, the first gust I saw that made me stop had that pole shaking violently and at least the top was springing strong.

Wow, those are some pretty good gusts to cause the pole to bend, but you still got a really good photo of the flag flying proudly!

Brian England   it was blowing pretty hard and I swear the first gust I saw had that top move at least 5 feet

Brian England   that's the type of wind, where one needs to know how to hit a stinger, or a low power draw to stay out of the wind.

Well, at least you weren't trying to hit a fade into that wind to get your ball to the green Ed Silva, 203-206-0754, haha.

For sure, Ed Silva, 203-206-0754 high-ball hitters don't fare so well in the wind, haha.

Good morning Ed,

Now that pole and flag was definitely straining with the wind gusts. Glad it simmered down but you got some great shots!

Dorie Dillard Austin TX   I was too far away when I saw the first one and even though these show the movement, it is at least half of what I first saw.

Ed, that BREEZE turned out to be pretty good gusts!   Glad it didn't bend the pole.  Great shot.

Hi Ed:

Wonderful flag photo on that blustery day. It's been pretty breezy here in the last couple of days and I really noticed all the flags I see when out running errands. Can't say I have seen a flag pole bending before but perhaps I have simply not noticed.
