It's the weekend, a time when ActiveRainers share various recipes with the community, and with the BananaTUDES! group.
There probably won't be too many people who will ever use this recipe, even though there are only three ingredients and it's simple. It's because the main ingredient is not one that is commonly available, at least not at a reasonable price.
Specifically I'm talking about morel mushrooms. One day about five years ago we were taking our morning walk down our driveway and my husband pointed out a weird looking mushroom. We did a bunch of research on both the mushroom and potentially similar looking but poisonous ones, and we determined we had found a few actual morel mushrooms.
If you look them up online with the thought of purchasing some, they can range from $30-50-and-up per pound. We have only found enough each year to make a few side dishes, or include in one recipe, but they're free so I make sure to take advantage.
Here is the simple recipe I tried, and the mushrooms are absolutely delicious.
Morel Mushroom Side Dish
Ingredients:
Morel Mushrooms, how ever many you have
Butter, 2 Tablespoons
Garlic Salt, a few pinches
Directions
1. If the mushrooms are freshly picked, wash the outside carefully, and slice open. Clean the inside as well, and then slice however you want (or just use the two halves as is).
2. Melt butter in a pan, and once it's melted, add the sliced mushrooms. Sprinkle however much garlic salt you want on top, and cook for approximately 5 minutes until the water has released from the mushrooms and evaporated from pan.
3. Eat however you want. This time, I put them on top of a wyagu bacon cheese burger as you can see in the top photo.
And that's it! The hardest part is finding the mushrooms in the first place.
Bon appetite! Manga! Provecho!
