“Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.”…… Harriet Tubman
Graduation season always stirs something special. It’s a season filled with excitement, uncertainty, possibility, and the realization that an entirely new chapter is about to begin. For the Class of 2026, the world ahead may feel both inspiring and overwhelming at the same time.
That’s why this quote resonates so deeply.
Strength will carry graduates through the challenges they never expected. Patience will remind them that success rarely happens overnight. And passion? Passion is what keeps people moving forward when life doesn’t go according to plan.
I recently listened to Eric Church's commencement speech at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and it was one of the best speeches I’ve ever heard. His message was authentic, grounded, and incredibly relevant for young graduates stepping into today’s world.
His analogy of the six guitar chords was especially inspiring. The way he connected those chords to six guiding principles for life, and the importance of staying “in tune” with yourself, was brilliant. He spoke about how deep down, you know when you’re off key, when your life feels out of balance, and when it’s time to recalibrate and get back on track.
That message about authenticity and staying true to yourself is so important, especially in a world full of noise and pressure to conform. To me, his words perfectly embodied this quote by Harriet Tubman: “Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.”
Life will not always follow a straight line. Dreams may evolve. Plans may change. There will be setbacks, detours, and moments of doubt. But there will also be opportunities that shape character, friendships and family that become lifelong anchors, and experiences that help define purpose.
This generation has already shown remarkable resilience, creativity, and heart. They are entering the world at a time when compassion, innovation, and strong leadership matter more than ever. The future belongs to those willing to work hard, stay humble, and continue reaching for something bigger than themselves.
To every graduate this year:
Believe in your abilities. Trust your journey. Keep learning. Keep growing. And never underestimate the impact you can have on the people around you and them on you.
The stars are not as far away as they seem.
