Had to go to the Vet Already

By
Industry Observer DRE# ER40011786

My sweet kitty Lucy developed some issues, and has been sneezing non-stop for a couple of days, rubbing her nose, and having trouble breathing.   VERY scary, she hasn't ever been sick.

Called the local vet in Quarteira, but they had no appointment today or for a few days, and recommended with a respiratory issue, t get to the Vet Hospital in Faro 25 minutes away.  SO, off we went.

The vet took an xray of her lungs, and they were OK, examined her, and decided that it is just a respiratory issue, and gave me some medicine for her.    The bill was 120 euros!   I couldn't even walk into my vet at home for less than $300!

She is sleeping on the couch, so hope she gets more sleep tonight.

Joan Cox, Retired Broker/Owner Sounds like allegies, poor girl. I have no idea how to convert euros to American dollars. So what did it cost you?

Awww, poor kitty. Maybe she's allergic to Portugal! Hopefully she'll get over it soon.

And that was a great price for the vet visit!

How much is gas over there?

Good morning Joan,

Converted looks like you spent about $139.47 in US dollars. Definitely cheaper! Do you Uber 25 miles away? What was the cost to get there and get home?

Hope you sweet kitty feels better soon!

Oh no, I hope it is nothing. Maybe just something she caught on the plane?

Hi Joan0 I hope Lucy feels better. Sometimes it's a matter of getting used to the new location, the drinking water, etc.

Poor Lucy. Respiratory issues in cats can be frightening, especially when they come on suddenly and affect breathing. I am glad the X-rays showed her lungs were clear and that you were able to get her seen quickly at the vet hospital in Faro. It sounds like you absolutely made the right decision not waiting several days for an appointment. And honestly, 120 euros for an exam, X-rays, and medication does sound much more reasonable than many vet visits here in the States. Hopefully with rest and medicine she will be feeling much better in a day or two.

Oh gosh, Joan... I'm so sorry to hear that. I do hope that Lucy feels better soon. I'm sure all the moving was stressful for her.

Hannah Williams the vet said she had a respiratory infection, and prescribed some medicine.  She already is breathing better, thankfully.   The dollar is .84 to the 1 euro, so $100 vet bill cost me 116 euros.

Kat Palmiotti it was a good price, as at home it was never less than $300, and with that health certificate was $945.   Gas is around $8.00 converting from liters and euros to gallons and dollars.

Dorie Dillard Austin TX the vet bill was pretty good, considering what I paid at home!   I still have a rental car, but taking it back today.   Trying to buy a car, but you have to have an home, not an airbnb.  Hopefully in a couple of weeks will have a car too.

Jeff, it could have been something on the plane, or something from the Airbnb.  You never know, change of climate?

Bill, the vet ruled out allergies, and said she has a respiratory infection.

Kathy Streib it could be a change in all that, water, climate, the Airbnb, who knows.  She is better today.

Gwen Fowler SC Lakes & Mountains 864-710-4518 it wasn't too much to pay, but everything is a bit less here.   She had some medicine yesterday and again this morning, and is not sneezing as much or having trouble breathing.

Nina Hollander, Broker I am sure this move, and all the hours in the carrier were stressful on them.   They do seem to like the apartment, and today Lucy is feeling better, not sneezing as much.
