Viktor E. Frankl once wrote, “Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”
I shared these words last January because they became deeply personal to me during my cancer journey. Radiation and chemotherapy were never paths I would have chosen, but I realized I could choose how I met each day.
In the space between appointments, side effects, uncertainty, and waiting, I learned to pause… to breathe… and to lean into hope and faith instead of fear. Some days that space felt very small. Other days it felt wide enough to hold courage, gratitude, peace, and the belief that brighter days were still ahead.
Cancer changed my routine, but it did not take away my ability to stay focused, remain optimistic, show up with strength, and trust deeply in healing.
This week, my daughter took me to MD Anderson Cancer Center for a PET scan and follow-up appointment with my radiologist. Then came the moment she said, “It’s time to ring the bell!”

What an emotional and grateful moment that was.
I know this journey is not completely over yet. I’ll return in August for another PET scan and MRI, and again in November, but hearing that bell ring felt like a celebration of hope, perseverance, faith, and all the love that carried me through.

To my family, friends, colleagues, and my wonderful ActiveRain friends… thank you. Your prayers, encouragement, kindness, messages, and support lifted me more than you know. I truly could not have done this without you. Every card, text, hug, prayer, and thoughtful gesture helped make those difficult days lighter and reminded me I was never walking this road alone. Kathy Streib thank you for everything and for making this video! |
My heart is full of gratitude today. 💙
