Memorial Day: Remember Those That Gave It All
If only there could be a scenario where young children, ask their parents why we celebrate Memorial Day as we have had enduring peace for years.

Standing on the side of a road, watching a parade march by and flags waving and bands sounding out the marching songs hundreds once strutted to in perfect cadence and order. If only.
No one makes the commitment to enlist, without the single thought as to what they are going to do, and the true commitment they are making.
Whether it was as a response to aggression back 250 years ago, or even in 1914 when the Kaiser was overly active and again in 1941, all knew it could be a one-way travel.
It is the way it has been forever, and the dream of lasting peace still remains.

We are experiencing heavy rains, and it has caused many events and parades to be canceled.
I went to the cemeteries Friday, in the sun, to place new flags at the graves of our family members and friends.
No fanfare, no bands, just a moment to say a prayer and maybe get a little weepy for those that have gone.
I remember a sign I read along the highway near a military base:
All Who Served Gave Some,
Some Who Served, Gave All
On this Memorial Day weekend, when the picnics and barbeques are stunted, don't forget the reasoning for the day and if you should see a person in uniform thank them for their service.
