Ask An Ambassador: When You Need Help

By
Real Estate Agent with Transaction Alliance 513.520.5305 www.WarrenCountyOhioRealEstate.com SAL.2002007747

There's a pond on the neighbor's property just across the street from us, and it's home to various turtles.  The other day as we left to run some errands, one of the turtles was in the middle of our street, so we stopped so Liz could move it to safety.  However, just as she got out of our SUV, a delivery truck came down the street at a good pace.  Very quickly, the turtle disappeared under the truck and we cringed and hoped for the best.  The turtle was on its back and spinning like a break dancer on the pavement.

At first glance we thought it would be RIP turtle, but the damage looked worse than actuality.  As you can see in the picture, there was injury, but after a bit the turtle moved its legs and even moved its head out a bit.  And while Liz has some good vet care skills, reptiles are not in our wheelhouse so we needed help, and not just any help.

Querying the phone for local reptile rescues led to a nearby organization.  Texts went back and forth with pictures of the turtle.  We also reached out to another organization we knew of, and while waiting to hear back from the second organization, the first organization pointed us to a certified animal rescuer who could help.  A 30 minute drive and the turtle was in the hands of a skilled nurse (literally, an ICU trained nurse who does animal rescue).  She repositioned the shell quickly and said she'd apply some bone matrix to help maintain the position while the shell healed.  The turtle will eventually be back to 100% and have a good story to tell the other turtles!

One of the great things about ActiveRain is there is skilled help throughout the community, and chances are if you have a problem or question, there's someone (or a bunch of someones) who can help.

Some issues are common and lots of people know the answer.

Other things are more complex, and while the number of people may be fewer, it's just a matter of making the connection to the right person.

There are people here who understand every nook and cranny of real estate.  Short sales, probate, land sales, commercial, property management, etc.  Pick a niche, someone here knows it, and they'll help, because that's the culture of this community.

Need regional specific knowledge?  That's here too.

Tech questions?  If Craig Daniels hasn't already written a post about how to do anything that has to do with AR, chances are someone else has.

Tech stuff?  Have you noticed all the AI info over the last year?  Or any other bright and shiny?  You'll probably hear about it first in this community!

Help is here and free for the asking.

Until next Tuesday, just Ask An Ambassador if you need help,

Bill & Liz aka BLiz

Awesome about the turtle! Reaching out for help is the way to get it, both on the road and in real estate.

Did the delivery driver stop afterwards?

I'm not even sure the driver saw the turtle and didn't stop immediately after or during the return trip (we live on a dead end street).  By that time, Liz had the turtle and was in our driveway while we were figuring out next steps (go back to house and get box and towel, start calling for help, etc.).

I wish drivers would be more careful on the roads. In my neighborhood we have large birds (cranes) that walk around and just eat lots of worms and bugs. Once every couple of months someone not paying attention runs into one.

The delivery truck was moving at a pace that I'd consider too fast for our country road.  Not sure the driver even had a chance to see the turtle.  Fortunately, it couldn't have been a full on run over or the turtle would have been in far worse condition.

Good morning Bill & Liz,
You're so right about the wide variety of expertise in this community, and it extends to life as well. There is almost always someone who knows the answer or where to get it.

I've tapped people for Virginia specific info, probate, short sales, HUD, etc.  Whatever I've needed, someone here has been available.

Good morning Bill. If you are here in the Rain, seek and you shall find! The start is the Q&A section where Support can provide the answer if not one of our members. If it is a broader issue, it may become a featured topic on a "Zoom" meeting. The answers are here if you ask. Enjoy your day.

Q&A is definitely a great place to start if you don't know who to specifically ask. Too often I see new people just do a blog post, but without a following I don't think there's as much chance to get help, but the Q&A has a regular following that can help.

Good morning Bill. A great reminder post that if you need to know all you have to do is ask. The Rain is here to serve. Maybe more will realize it if your post is featured here in BananaTUDES and more people are exposed to the reality! Congrats!

There seems to be something in human nature where we don’t wanna ask for help, but it always turns out better when we do, In these cases

It's something I have to allow myself to do at times.  By nature, I'm kind of wired to be independent and take care of my own issues (until I can't).

Bill you are right, if it is Real Estate related, and even some non Real Estate related, there are multiple AR members who can provide the answers/help, or direct to where the answers/help can be found.

Hello Bill of Liz and Bill Spear - Thank you and Liz for taking the time to help the turtle - bad timing, it was hit, and great timing that you were there to see it and make sure it got help.

I like the tie-in to the AR community.

That's so great Bill that you rescued "him or her" and it will be able to heal. I have helped large turtles crossing the street .I stop my car and get out and wave the other  cars to go on the other side of the road and pick up the turtle to move it to the grass towards the water. My only question is whether I was pointing it in the direction it wanted to go as there is water in this neighborhood on both side. Have an awesome week

The turtles thank you!
A few times over the years we've had a rather large snapper make her way to our azalea beds and start digging to lay eggs.

Thank you for saving the turtle. Unfortunately there are too many cases of wildlife being injured (or worse) here in Southwest Florida due to careless, impatient and or intentional driving.

May 27, 2026 09:50 AM
Liz and Bill Spear

I would imagine you have far more wildlife on the roads there (although we have our share of deer, raccoons, possums and the occasional coyote as highway roadkill).

Bill:

Thank you and Liz for stepping up and doing the right thing to help that poor turtle with a happy ending. There are ample opportunities to get help here in the rain and numerous people willing to provide it. The Q and A section is great place to ask for assistance, or just pick up the phone.
