Sunday with LOTS to Say, and some Funnies!

The last weekend in May for the last 53 years, the Fisherman's Festival is held in Quarteira.  WHAT FUN!   I went to the event spot, but everyone said you need to get to the beach, as that is where the fishermen bring the fish!   Many took hold of the ropes to haul in the nets, young and old!

I got so close, the waves came in and got me wet to my pockets!  LOL   Fun to see everyone get so excited for the fishermen, especially the squeals of the kiddos!

Then went to the venue a few blocks away, and there were many booths of food available for purchase.  There was also live music, which was really nice.   Will need to practice up on my salsa!

So glad I went today, it was the Portuguese tradition that should be experienced!

Went to the fish market this morning and saw all kinds of fish I had never seen, including baby sharks.  Didn't know people ate shark meat. (This is where I say - I was born in Nebraska and lived in Colorado since I was 5...fish wasn't popular growing up!)   There was one fish especially "cute", it was quite red.   I did not buy any, as I am moving into my apartment in a couple of days, and don't want to have to pack it.

It was 80 degrees, only 45% humidity, but got very warm standing in the sun for 1.5 hours.  SO fun!

OK, now for some funnies, and found some REALLY good ones this week!

This would be Lucy, and get nervous when she gets up on the chair looking out over the 4th floor balcony!

I wish that dry little elf would leave my phone alone!

Happy Sunday from far away!   Just remember to do something fun and/or relaxing!

Good morning, Joan... I have one burning questions? Did it smell "fishy" having all those fish around? My Taj tries to climb the walls... so I can relate to that Mission Impossible music... he always looks so surprised when he can't make it up the wall.

Joan, what a wonderful way to experience local culture and traditions. The Fisherman's Festival sounds like one of those events that allows you to truly connect with the community, from helping pull in the nets to enjoying the food, music, and excitement along the beach. I had to laugh about getting soaked by the waves and your decision not to buy fish because you are moving. Thanks for sharing your adventure and the smiles. Enjoy your Sunday and your next Portuguese discovery!

Nina Hollander, Broker yes, it did smell a bit fishy once the nets came in, and so did the fish market.   That is the problem with fish, even when you cook it, you need to open the windows or cook something else to kill off the smell.

Lucy "bounces" off the wall, running down a hall.   It is pretty funny, she did it once since we have been here.

Joan Cox, Retired Broker/Owner oh my goodness, Joan... fish and lamb! Hard to get those smells out of a house. And we don't open windows here at certain times of the year.

Nina Hollander, Broker I always BBQd my lamb on the grill, so none of that smell either.  Towards the end in CO, I cooked almost everything on the grill, so no smells while listed.

Nina Hollander, Broker guess I knew you didn't have a grill.  I don't now either, but I won't have a proper balcony to put it on.  BUMMER, really enjoying BBQing.

Gwen Fowler SC Lakes & Mountains 864-710-4518 it really did feel good and I felt part of the community watching this happening on the beach.   Felt pretty stupid with dripping wet capris though!  LOL  Oh well, no biggie

Joan Cox, Retired Broker/Owner  you are getting there. I can recall teams of oxen on the shoreline and the long ropes to not only pull in the nets, but also the ships.

And it's not salsa, it's the Vira, a simple 2-step

Jeff, although my apartment isonly abou 20 minutes away, the fish probably would have been ok, just didn't want any more to move than I already have.

Ed Silva, 203-206-0754 shoot, thought it would have been the salsa, it was like the music in Brazil.  Will have to remember that.

Good afternoon Joan. You cook on an outdoor grill to escape cooking smells and Nina makes reservations. Each works but one is less expensive. Enjoy your European adventures.

Wayne Martin I like to make reservations too, but one can only do that for so long unless you are very wealthy.   I love to BBQ, and sure I will miss it here.  I will have to check out the complex, maybe they have an outdoor BBQ.

Hi Joan- that festival looked like a lot of fun and a great way to immerse yourself in the culture there. I'm so happy you went. As for the fish, it was probably wise of you not to buy one if you couldn't eat it right away.

As for the funnies...I loved them all.

Kathy, glad you enjoyed the funnies.   With the flies and bugs flying all over the food, it was not appealing.
