Wordless Wednesday…A Wonderful Surprise!

Wayne Martin nesting season will soon be winding down. It's a good thing because it's getting too hot for the chicks to be in those boxes.

Kat Palmiotti You'd have thought we'd won the lottery!  

George Souto we're surprised because we didn't even have wrens or chickadees in the boxes this year. 

Brian England  we're seeing baby cardinals and some other birds at our feeder. We know the nests are nearby in the bushes but we haven't seen them.

Doug Dawes we have a camera mounted at the top of the box so we can watch what's happening in the box we have at home!  The bluebird Mama and Papa often dive bomb us when we approach the boxes to check on them. We log this into Nestwatch. 

Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543 for bluebird eggs, the eggs hatch around 11 days after the last egg is laid and they fledge around 17 days after that. We've noticed that mom and dad hang around the box when it's time for them to fledge. While the chicks start to leave both parents are up high watching where they go. 

Joan Cox, Retired Broker/Owner I wonder if the mama bluebird we have is one of the birds that hatched from our first or second brood when we started monitoring the bluebirds. 

Nina Hollander, Broker so have the other birds!!! Some of them are the ones we'd love to get rid of, like the starlings and brown headed cowbirds. We love all of the others.

I agree Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - Wanda Can!   That's why I'm often amazed at the walkers who never seem to notice the deer or other animals out at the Preserve where we walk.
