JF Kennedy Waterbury CT: Class of 1966 Trying to Have a Reunion

Well, we have all been there, I believe and when we got that diploma, the talk and tears were prevalent.  Some did stay in touch and others not so much, but when there were over 300 graduates, especially in 1966, the future had questions.

We had a few reunions in the interim, I remember one in 1986, our 20th as well as a big one in 2016, our 50th.

For those seeking yours truly, I am kneeling just above the word school, and my wife is beside me as we were classmates back then.

Our class was special for the fact that we were the first graduating class for the new high school in Waterbury. We were not supposed to be together as there were other schools that would handle our numbers, but as we had been together 3 years at the Croft high school that was being replaced, we petitioned and moved in mass to be allowed to complete the years together.

I was not one of the class officers but was somewhat known as a character. and always had a smile on my face.

Earlier this year, I was contacted by a few fellow grads inquiring about a 60th reunion for the JF Kennedy High School Class of 1966.

I knew that our class President had passed 6 years ago.

What I do know is that many people in our age group, approaching 80, do not want a social media presence, even though there are a few sites like Classmates, and even a JFK site that is not our school, but people do seek.

So, I have taken the initiative and reserved the date of Aug 1 for a reunion site. I am reaching out as best I can to fellow alumni to get attendance, and so far, have less than a dozen. There will be some type of gathering and as we only had about 60 attendees for our 50th, if I could get half that number, it would be great. The reality of time is harsh, and we know that a few have already passed. Some may be too tired or just not have the strength to attend.

So, this is being pisted as an encouragement. I have been contacted through ActiveRain, as my real estate blogs are still out there and if people seek me by name, great.

Again, the J F Kennedy, Waterbury CT Class of 1966 is trying to get as many people as we can for our 60th high school reunion.  Spread the word. I take calls on my cell at 203-206-0754.

This is a good thing, and fellow Rainers can help just by liking the post, so it gets indexed.

Hi Ed,
It's 56 for me this year. We won't have an official reunion, but I still get together with some of my classmates when I'm in that area. I hope we can have one for our 60th, but we only had 44 to start with, and the numbers are dwindling.

I hope you get a good turnout!

Carol Williams   If we can get as many as 20, it would be a win

The years quickly go by! I graduated from Cradock High School in Portsmouth, Virginia in 1955. The number of survivors is limited.

For sure they would be as that is 11 years before ours, and just before I started 1st grade

Good morning Ed. My graduating class had 28 people. I still maintain contact with 4 of them. Some are lost and not to be found and some have passed. As we approach our 60th anniversary I doubt there will be a call for a reunion. Only one showed for the 50th at the campus. Enjoy your 60th.

Good morning again, Ed... this year would be my 60th reunion... so far not much has happened to get one going. Having gone to high school in NY City, we are very scattered all around the country (those of us who are still alive; plus our class had only 54 students).

Nina, like your class those of us that are still alive and also functioning, are also scattered. I have talked to a classmate from WV, Montana, Ma, as well as a couple of those nearby.

How ever many we are, I will see that we do something

I hope you can drum up some interest.  I have never been to a school reunion and often wonder what it's like.  There's no way I'm flying back to my old town.

Hi Ed- I hope you get a 60th reunion together. Mine will be next year. We still have a small group that tries to meet once a month for lunch. When I returned to Houston, I attended one and it was fun. But it's hard when you've lost touch.

Wow, that is really cool.  Being able to see people you went to school with 50 years ago is quite amazing, in my opinion, haha.

Hi Ed:

Good for you to take the planning of the 60th reunion. I hope, no matter what the turnout, that it's lots of fun and filled with memories.

That's a fun photo of your 50th reunion. You must have had a great time.

Jeff

Hi Ed! I feel that with you at the helm of this, you'll have a good turnout and a fabulous time. I have always been on the planning committee but, this year just couldn't. We send out emails to those we have emails for and since most of our generation have Facebook accounts, we (the group of planners) each post something on our own FB pages. We also have a reunion FB page for our class and have had it for quite some time. So, we hit everyone up there too.

Best of luck to you!!
