Yesterday Larry held the door open for someone entering a restaurant who called out, “Hold the door.” The man rushed right past us and got his name on the waiting list before we could.
For a split second, we wondered if there was a secret competition we didn’t know about.

Then we just stood there and smiled.
It’s funny how the smallest moments can remind us that not everyone moves through the world the same way. Some people are focused on getting to the front of the line. Others are focused on holding the door.
As for me, I’ll probably keep holding the door anyway, even if I occasionally lose the race to the waiting list.
