Living in Quarteira, pretty much you can walk to everything. My new apartment is on the other end of the town, from most of the happening. (Which is kind of good, it is quieter at night.) The Mercado which has a fish market and fruits and veggies is about 25 min walk. It is getting warm (90 on Monday) so morning walks are better.
SO, thinking about this summer when it is really hot and humid. Still thinking about a car, but parking in the populated areas is next to impossible, especially when you factor in tourists this summer. I am seeing LOTS of electric scooters, but they look dangerous when you are 70 years old! LOL
Maybe a Moped, they have gas and electric models, and under 2,000 euros. I still may buy a car down the road, but it's probably not as important. May just rent one when I want to do a road trip. The Mopeds go only 28 miles per hour, and get around 98 miles per gallon (US). Gas is around $9 or $10/gallon, if you convert liters and euros to gallons and dollars! I could park it in my garage, but there is a warning that they are in high demand and can be stolen, so a two-lock system is recommended. Will need to drive one and see if that will work. Can add a basket on the back when I go shopping. With the bike only able to go 28 MPH, you cannot ride it on highways, as the minimum speed is 50, so just around town. If you saw how skinny some of these streets are, the Moped would work better!
For years, I would NEVER ride a motorcycle, so anyone who knew me would think I'd lost my mind, but maybe it's a better decision here in Quarteira.
