Potential for Fires

By
Industry Observer DRE# ER40011786

I lived in Colorado almost my whole life, and the last few years were filled with danger of fire warnings.   They used to be only in the spring and summer, but then it was for most of the year.

In the Algarve (the southern part of Portugal), it doesn't rain much in spring/summer/fall.   Just in the winter.  This past winter was VERY rainy, but mostly in central Portugal.

I have joined a few groups for Portugal, and one was for the fire danger and where current fires are located in Portugal.   Right now, there are several around Porto, and don't see any fires elsewhere.   My attorney lives in Porto, and he said they are fine, so must be out of the City.

With dry weather, and on occasion it is windy, there could be fire danger around here at any time too.

Here is the map I watch for fires.

Good morning Joan. Wild fires in Portugal not surprising. What is surprising is how little we hear about it here in America. Do they get news about the fires here in America on the news? Stay safe and keep us informed. Seems as if you are the only source. Enjoy your day.

Hi Joan,
Where are you on that map? North and west?

Only one season with precipitation can certainly result in dry land! I hope fires don't reach you at any point during your stay.

Jeff, between fires, floods, tornadoes, there sure is a lot happening.

Joan, it is so true that fire risks seem to follow us no matter where we go! It is fascinating to see the differences in weather patterns between Colorado and Portugal, but dry conditions and wind are universal threats. Thank you for sharing the map link—stay safe out there and continue to enjoy your time!

Wayne Martin I don't remember hearing about fires over here, unless they were REALLY bad.  You are right, I don't hear about fires in the US now on the news here.  BUT, I still record national news and watch every day.

Carol Williams pull up the map of Portugal, and look at the Southern part, there is a tip where Faro is, and Quarteira is the next town to the West.  Only about 20-25 min from the Faro International Airport.

Kat, I should probably google and see how often fires happen in the area, but a bit afraid to.

I remember when I walked the Camino we saw the news all about the raging fires in Portugal. It is good to be alert and keep track of what is going on. Having a "go bag" as Kathy wrote about  recently is a good idea.

Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543 I did Google yesterday after you wrote this, and the majority of the fires are in rural wooded areas, and haven't been in Quarteira, but will still be vigilant and prepared.

Kathy Streib will definitely have a "go bag" and be ready.  I did Google though, and fires are not normal here in Quarteira, they are mostly in rural wooded areas.
