The Grass is Mowed, and my Allergies are Awful

By HelpfulHannah

If you walked outside today, you probably noticed it is hot and muggy, and perhaps the landscapers have mowed your lawns

While we love the look of freshly mowed lawns, they are a nightmare for allergy sufferers. The lawn mowers are releasing high levels of pollen into your sinuses and throat. If you are feeling incredibly tired, headache, and completely drained, you aren't imagining things.

Systemic inflammation leads to "allergy fatigue" and intense sinus pressure headaches.

  • Grass Pollen: High (This is your main culprit right now, and the lawn mowers are actively kicking these grass allergens straight into the air).

  • Tree Pollen: Low (The worst of the tree pollen has wrapped up for the year).

  • Weed Pollen & Mold: Low. When Will It Subside? Light at the end of the tunnel, but you'll have to hang in there for a few more weeks.

  • Spring/Tree Pollen: This has already mostly subsided.

  • Grass Pollen: Is at its peak. In the Philadelphia area, grass pollen typically dominates throughout May; it begins to decline by mid-to-late June

.Quick Relief Tip for Today

Since many landscapers will be mowing the lawns, keep your windows closed and your air conditioners on. Be sure to change the filters. Wash your clothes and take a shower, washing your hair at the end of the day to remove pollen and dust. Hopefully this will help relieve your breathing, runny nose, and itchy, watery eyes.

One thing is certain: The Grass Looks beautiful, and so do the flowers

Oh my Helpful Hannah, so many people have so many different kinds of allergies.

Solution? Buy a home with a "man cave" and a beer fridge and hide out until winter....Just kidding. It is a real issue and we have plants from so many places in the world at our nurseries.

Very helpful advice, Helpful Hannah. 😉Fortunately, I don't suffer from spring allergies except from the yellow pollen that shows up here early each spring. So I expect a couple of uncomfortable weeks but after it's gone... I'm good. And actually, I've learned that I can overcome this allergy with acupuncture. I suggest acupuncture to everyone with allergies.

Hello Miss Hannah Williams

In my early 20's, I had terrible issues with allergies.  It seems over time I outgrew them.

Somehow, my body now likes to deal with allergies again - ugg.  The havoc the pollen and other things play - it's awful!

Bob "RealMan" Timm I received allergy shots for many years as a teen and young adult . I suffered from asthma for many years but outgrew it. This year was a very bad year for  Spring Pollen allergies in the NE. I also suffer in the fall. Our cars were covered in pollen. The good thing is everything is growing and looks beautiful.
