Motivational Monday…We Can Each Be the Catalyst
The first time we drove through Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve, I saw a majestic tree not too far from the road. There was a picnic table beneath it begging for someone to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee, a picnic lunch, or to contemplate life.
The other day, we saw a gentleman we’d seen before. He was under
that tree at the picnic table, reading a book with this sign…
Want to Talk? Vent? Pray?
I waved and said, “Good morning.” He returned the smile and greeting, but there was no pressure to stop. Had we not had appointments, I would have loved to spend a few minutes learning about him.
The greatest good you can do for another is not just to share your riches but to reveal to him his own.
Benjamin Disraeli
What struck me is that each of us has it in us to be the catalyst for change, to offer help to someone, or to simply make someone’s day.
I have no idea whether he travels from park to park or if anyone has ever stopped to chat or pray. But what matters is that this one person has taken it upon himself to do what he can.
The truly successful person inspires others to do more than they have thought possible for themselves.

Often, we ask ourselves, “What can I do? I’m just one person?”
Or…do you find yourself saying “Someone should do something about that!”
Perhaps this week, we can each ask ourselves:
What is the one thing I can do?
I am only one. But still, I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something that I can do.
