Living in a smaller town, I was thinking everything was within walking distance. I didn't jump into buying a car right away, to FEEL what walking everywhere would be like. In Colorado, you cannot do that.
When you go to the grocery store, don't forget your bags, and don't buy too much, so you can carry it home. When I first got into my apartment, it is furnished, but needed some things. The "department store" is a 15-20 minute walk UP HILL. I bought 140€ worth of stuff, so called an UBER to take me home. I did buy this cart yesterday and brought home two large bags of groceries. Need to go more than once a week. Groceries are still under 50€, and that does include a bottle of wine!
In the Airbnb, I was very central, walking to so many places was only 10-15, and only 3 blocks to the grocery store and bank. Now that I am on the other side of town in my apartment, just to get to the bank is 20 min. With the summer heat (almost 90 and 75%+ humidity) I am drenched when I get to the bank! Hopefully will get used to this soon, it has been a month!
There are no car dealers in the town of Quarteira, so to get to one, you need to call an UBER. Yesterday I found a car in Tavira I really liked, so I started to see how to get there. Not sure if I can BUY the car and take it home the same day, still need to do some research. But I thought I could take the bus (the station is close to my apartment) and stay at a hotel near the station in Tavira for the night. BUT, this morning, the car must have been sold, it is no longer on the site. 🤥
Guess I will keep looking. I almost have eliminated the idea of a moped, too many are stolen, and do fear with more and more tourists in the summer, it could be more dangerous driving them.
