The Death of Personal Responsibility: When Did Someone Else’s Child Become My Financial Burden?
If you spend an hour reading the mainstream media’s endless coverage on the "childcare crisis," you’ll notice a glaring, systematic omission. There are thousands of words dedicated to systemic failure, government subsidies, and corporate mandates. But you will search in vain for the two words that used to anchor the entire concept of family in America: personal responsibility.
When did basic family planning stop being part of the plan?
For generations, the calculus of starting a family was straightforward, rooted in maturity and foresight. Before bringing a new life into the world, would-be parents asked themselves a fundamental, agonizingly practical question: "How are we going to afford the children we create?" It wasn’t a cold calculation; it was the ultimate act of love and duty. It meant making sacrifices, budgeting, waiting until you were financially stable, and understanding that a child is a lifelong commitment.
Today, the liberal media treats that question like a relic of a bygone, oppressive era. In their narrative, the natural financial consequence of having a child is no longer a private responsibility—it is a collective emergency that the taxpayers are obligated to fix.
We have normalized a deeply toxic mindset: I create the life, and others are expected to pay for it.
Let's be entirely clear: affordable childcare does not start with a federal program, a new tax bracket, or a bureaucratic mandate. It starts at home. It starts with the conscious choice to only have children you have the means to support, nurture, and protect. Having a child is a monumental, beautiful responsibility. But it is your responsibility. It must never be engineered from the outset as a financial burden to be externalized onto your neighbors, many of whom made the hard choice to delay their own families until they were financially secure.
By transforming childcare into a "universal right" funded by the public purse, the media isn't helping families; they are eroding the foundational incentive for self-reliance. They are subsidizing recklessness while penalizing the exact kind of careful, disciplined family planning that builds strong communities.
The solution to the rising cost of raising a family isn't more government intervention to bail out poor choices. The solution is a return to a simple, unshakeable truth: if you choose to bring a child into this world, the bill belongs to you, not the taxpayer down the street. It’s time to stop treating children as a public utility and start treating them, once again, as a profound personal accountability.

Good morning, Richard... an issue you've covered very well. I've long been of the opinion that too many Americans have abrogated their personal responsibility.
